GC Power Ranking

Page 14 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Halfway through this years Tour Rogla was already over 2 minutes down Pogacar, even before the latter hit the best level ever. It takes wild imagination to think Rogla would have overtaken Pogi in the GC but yours is fitting, I never doubted it!

One at a time, beating Jonas would automatically validate what Mas was saying and to still shred the predominant thought in this thread. Next year, then.

1. Vignegard
2 Tadej pogacar
3. Remco
4. Primo Roglic
5. Adam Yates
6. Almida
7. Jay hindley

10. Enrick mas
11. Tiberi
11. Carapax
12. Martinez
13. Gaudu

What recent feat promoted hindlez in the elite club of correctly spelled riders?

Solid take.

How do you reconcile this with the fact that he was 8th in a stacked Tour as a helper? Even if you add in Martinez, G, Roglic, and Kuss that puts him at 12th. I’d say he’s solidly top 10 with ability to be top 5 with team support.

I agree with this but I’d put Jorgenson in with the 5-7 group.

Lots of great takes that I mostly agree with. Like @SHAD0W93 I want to see what the Vuelta brings before making a full list, but my two cents:
  1. Pogacar
  2. Vingegaard
  3. Remco / Roglic

  4. Jorgenson / A Yates / Almeida / Landa

  5. Martinez / G / Kuss
2024 is in the books. Let the debate begin. Honestly gets very tough after the top 4.

1. Pogacar
2. Vingegaard
3. Roglic
4. Remco

<Hopeless gap>

Removed because others made good points and I’m not sure i got mine right.
I’m updating mine after looking at my previous posts and reading others’ very good points.
  1. Pogacar (+2)
  2. Vingegaard (-1)
  3. Roglic
  4. Evenepoel (+2)
  5. Almeida (+4)
  6. Mas (previously unranked)
  7. Jorgenson (previously unranked)
  8. Yates (-1)
  9. Landa (previously unranked)
  10. Ayuso (no change)
Dropped out from my EOY 2023 list:
  • G
  • Kuss
  • S Yates
  • z
Now that the GC “battle” in the 2023 Vuelta is over, bringing the 2023 stage racing season to a conclusion, here is my updated Power Ranking. I placed greater prioritization on demonstrated performance (e.g., G’s second in the Giro) than on speculative performance (e.g., if Remco hadn’t gotten Covid, he might have won the Giro). I considered both GTs (more important) and 1-week stage races (less important).

  1. Jonas Vingegaard
  2. Primoz Roglic
  3. Tadej Pogacar
  4. Geraint Thomas
  5. Sepp Kuss
  6. Remco Evenepoel
  7. Adam Yates
  8. Simon Yates
  9. Joao Almeida
  10. Juan Ayuso

Mas said only Pog and Ving can follow that Roglic attack.
The attack with teammates drilling was fast at first (speed n°1). But Roglic slowed down after (speed n°2). Other were slower the whole time (speed 3).

What Mas said :
Vingegaard and Pogacar can go speed 1.
What he meant :
Vingegaard and Pogacar can go speed 1, until the finish.

That bring us to the logical conclusion :

1) Pogacar
2) Vingegaard (maybe 1 because of poor preparation)

3) Remco
4) Roglic (will age :'( )- stronger unipuerto climber than Remco but lesser ITT

5) Almeida

6) Ayuso (I believe)
7) Mas/A.Yates
8) Carapaz/Landa and many others ...

I think he was talking about the specific effort Roglic did on alto de moncavillo. I don't think he was saying they are at the same level.

IMHO this doesn't leave all that much to interpretation.

"Very few people in the peloton or in the world can do that kind of effort. Jonas [Vingegaard] and Tadej [Pogačar] are at the same level, but the rest of us have to manage ourselves a bit more."

Not much really... I've never seen him as an intelligent rider or person.

Easy there tiger.

All in all i am glad we had this discussion, challenge accepted. To beat Pogi and Jonas (and Remco) in future GTs, as in the end what else is Rogla going to do? Rogla is mostly still not eligible for beating any serious age related record, so there goes the age advantage. Considering Rogla being in his peak years, in between 34 and around 38, numbers rather consistent with starting his career 10 years late.

As long as Rogla keeps beating them it doesn't really matter on who has Rogla at first, second, third or fourth position. Lets not forget, people having Rogla at fourth would likely be the first one to pop-up in Rogličes thread, would Rogla crash at the Vuelta 2024.

GT GC:

1. Roglič (5 GT)
2. Pogačar (3 GT)
3. Vingegaard (2 GT)
4. Evenepoel (1 GT)

People saying things like i will put Evenepoel above Roglič and both at the end of the list, well, lets just burst that bubble, shall we.

P.S. For week long stage racing i feel it's somewhat the same.
No but you have to adjust for value. Tour counts double, Vuelta and Giro count as half

So it's Pogacar 6.5
Vingo 4
Roglic 2.5
Evenepoel 0.5

He is a leader at Movistar and i doubt that would be the case at SOQ. I don't know on how much Mas earns but i could imagine he could match that at SOQ. So i don't know if it's all about money, when it comes to Mas and he didn't take it lightly, not winning Vuelta 2024.
He left SOQ in 2019, there was still more than room enough for him to be a leader in races, just like there was for Landa this year. When he left he earned way more at Movistar, and it was said to be +1M.
