La fe mueve montañas y la nuestra (la de todo el bloque) en Cobo ha movido el Angliru y la Vuelta a España 2011. Juanjo es muy bueno y nuestro gran líder, pero me gustaría contaros el trabajo de todo el equipo para tratar de vestirnos de rojo hoy.

En la reunión pre-carrera había comentado a Carlos Sastre que, moviera quien se moviera en el Cordal, se marchara con él. Así fue. En las primeras rampas de Angliru Denis iba a ser el encargado de poner ritmo, pero Juanjo le mandó parar: "Denis estoy bien, creo que voy a salir antes".

Estaba previsto que Juanjo atacara a cuatro kilómetros de meta, pero lo hizo a ocho. Me comentó que quería probar y como las piernas las tiene él y las sensaciones son suyas, le dije que adelante. Elegimos un 34x32 y nos salió bien. Cobo ha estado suelto toda la subida. Ni la Cuña de las Cabras ni nada. Espectacular.

Definitivamente no me arrepiento de hacer parar a David ayer. Somos líderes por méritos propios. Ahora tenemos que ser prudentes, asumir responsabilidades y defender lo conseguido hasta Madrid.

Es cierto lo que ahora se cuenta sobre Cobo. Ha querido dejar el ciclismo y yo he hablado personalmente con él hasta tres veces por este tema. Un corredor con tanta calidad y que competía con Contador en amateur no podía dejarse ganar por la desilusión. Yo, él y ahora todos sabemos que anda mucho.

El equipo que tengo es una maravilla. Sastre, un ganador de Tour y cientos de cosas más, dispuesto a moverse por Cobo. Denis demostrando ser un escudero tremendo. David De La Fuente dispuesto a todo por el líder, Blanco también, Fabio (Duarte) trabajando por la general por equipos, Brandle y Kozontchuk dándolo todo. Por encima de todo son amigos y muy buenas personas. Son muy grandes, aunque Fabio no pasa de 1,60 m. Jejeje.

Some interesting points.

Sastre had to follow anybody who attacked in Cordal.

Mechov had to pull hard when big gradients starts but Cobo feel well and go before the plan, at -4km was the plan.

Cobo choose 34x32 gearing and had not problem at cuña de las cabras (23.5%).

No regrets to stop de la Fuente to help Cobo.

Cobo was at the brink of retire because desillusionment and he spoke 3 times to recover him becuase a rider who matched Contador in amateur can't leave in this way (So the dissapointness could be for see what Contador became when they were at similar level in amateur)

At the end he praise Sastre and Menchov for their humbled and the rest of the Team.

Of course though - Contador is what, 2 years younger than Cobo? So if he was matching him when they were amateurs, bearing in mind that Cobo turned pro at 22, then you'd expect that that's because Contador was more talented.

It's a wrong thread for it, but something about Matxin makes me hate him more than I would hate a random dodgy DS.

Also Cobo seems (pretty much is) soft in the head despite the moniker.

1 year as in category's 1981 is cobo and contador is 1982. they rode against each other even as juniors

yes, but Contador would still have been matching Cobo at an earlier stage in his development, hence you would expect him to be better when fully developed.

I wonder if they can keep the race under control. My worry is they won't allow the sprinters teams to ride on the sprint stages and will do all the work themselves.
