Geraint Thomas - What should he aim for?

It seems that Geraint Thomas is one of the most talented riders around. The strength of his prologue in Romandie makes it clear that if he dedicates himself to a particular area, he can be world beating. He was there or thereabouts in the punchy uphill finishes in the TdF last year, he performs well on the cobbles, he has a turn of speed, and he's capable of impressive lead out efforts. He's also shown a little bit of promise on longer climbs.

Where do you think he has the best chance of success? If you were him, what would you focus on? How far do you think he can he go in the sport?

i think you wanted to name this thread:

"Can Geraint Thomas win the tour"

on a serious note he should focus on the cobbles, the weather played a major role on his win today and he will never be competitive on the big climbs. so cobbles are the way to go for him, imo

I see him be a good classics rider for Sky in the years ahead, and boy do they need him. The thorwing a spanner in the works in other stage races. good enough that you can't ignore him in a breakaway, strong enough to lead a break to victory if he does get seperation in the medium mountain stages.

After 2012 I don't see hime returning the the track, the draw of the 'home' Olympics was strong this year.

Intrigued to hear what "promise" G has shown on longer climbs ;)
He's a classics rider and prologue specialist.

He should aim for total world domination, why the hell not?

What can he become? A decent classics rider.

He has shown to climb slightly less than EBH on occasion, which could be enough to win some one-week races.

He won Bavaria last year didn't he? Though I can't remember what the parcours was like.

I'd imagine he'll ditch the track after the Olympics and focus on the cobbles, he's shown good promise already. I'm sure Cav will want him on leadout duty as well.

His problem in the long run may be his versatility. At this stage, he doesn't seem to excel in anything but is very good in a number of disciplines.

He can be a very good cobbled rider as his engine is good.
He is effective as a leadout, and has a nifty turn of speed.
He is good in TTs, particularly prologues and flatter TTs.
He can be a decent domestique in the mountains (on his form in last year's tour).

Short term, let the road season be and try to win gold in London on the track, will make his name in UK more than winning whatever second rated race. afterwards, probably the cobbles in view of his star studded team, it is where the team is weakest and there are the most opportunities for him in the next 2-3 years

I think he could become a very good climber if he dropped some weight. don't know how heavy he is right now. but if he drop 6 kg. no doubt
