Do you remember Gewiss Balla team in 1994 and 1995?
In my opinion it's biggest case of systematic doping in cyclism.

the doctor was Michele Ferrari of course and the had results like

1994 was unbelievable.

No better than US Postal/Discovery channel: 7 Tour de France, 2 Vueltas and 1 Giro.

Actually, their spring campaign was never very successful - their strongest efforts were in the Driedaagse de Panne and once in Gent-Wevelgem.

My guess is their typical, rather passive, tactics weren't suited for single-day races.

Apart from a very young Boonen & Devolder, they had a $hitty one day team in my opinion. Lance quit trying for those races, and Hincapie was not on equal with Museew.

Yes, Gewiss were a shocking example of organised doping with their use of Ferrari.

But look at Festina, Mapei or ONCE too. In fact look at most teams operating in the 1990s.

Arguably it was ONCE that began it all. They started turning up to races in February on "full power" and so forced other teams/riders to join the arms race and adopt similar preparation methods.

yes but in 1994 we have seen mediocre riders like Furlan and Bobrik winning Milano - San Remo and Giro di Lombardia.

The part where 3 Gewiss riders rode away (without attacking) from the entire peloton at the Flèche Wallone and couldn't be brought back by a concerted effort from the entire peloton being the most "d'oh"-worthy moment.

Not to mention a pursuit rider suddenly winning Liége and the Giro d'Italia without losing much weight at all.
