STAGE 13: Ferrara – Nervesa della Battaglia 180 km

Technical Overview:
The peloton leaves the Appennines and crosses the Po Valley, with a stage that is almost pan flat. The only (very minor) difficulty of the day comes in the end, with the Montello (GPM4, 2.9 km at 3.9%). To me this makes it look even worse, because the Montello is an awesome place for a bike race, featuring a lot of steep roads (some of them even unsurfaced), and since the stage is not long at all, and follows an easy stage as well, they could have used some. The sprinters will get one of their last chances and everybody will spend their time looking at tomorrow...

What to Expect:
Mass sprint. Can't really think the main road of the Montello is enough for anything else.

Agree with the overview. Impossible to see any result other than a mass sprint. 2.9km @ 3.9% will be raced up at scary speed by the sprinters' teams to negate any possibility of an escape. Can't wait for the next stage!

Re: Giro 2018 stage 13: Ferrara – Nervesa della Battaglia 18

I'm a little sad the stage doesn't finish 13 kilometers earlier right after the descent, but to be honest I understand they wanted to make a stage where the final climb is a little further away from the finish than today.
Tomorrow could be another rainy day which might make the stage a little more tricky. I really hope someone will make a strong attack on the climb and the finale will at least be a little exciting.

I was wrong about today's nearly identical stage, so I'll just shut up and hope for more rain and wind on this one.

This is much easier though.

Bora should go full berserk on the hill. Even if other sprinters hang on - and it’s easy enough that most should - the harder things have been the more it will take out of the rest compared to Bennett.

Yeah, let them get a little rest before Zonc, I can deal with that. Not gonna tune in anyways. :D

They made a bridge cat. 4 in 2011.
The pont de Saint-Nazaire...a murito in the wind. That was PR more than anything. Nasty but short. Too short to be categorized. PR stuff. ASO going De Gaulle :) .

This could be the traditional stage that is won by an Italian from a 2nd-division team.

Montello is not hard enough to drop any sprinter in the peloton but I wonder if Kittel could be dropped on such a climb? :p
