Giro d'Italia 2011: Stage 13 Spilimbergo to Grossglockner

I know stage 12 hasnt even started yet alone finished. But hey, we get a week before PR and LBL and RVV to focus on that. We started LBL before FW had even started.

And stage 12 isnt all that.

And it is afterall, less than 40 hours now till the stage starts.

So I say, lets look forward to what really matters. Lets look forward to the weekend. And to start, lets look forward to the Grossglockner. The highest mountain in Austria.

Here it is.

Unfortunately i cant find a profile online of the bit of the climb they are doing here, just much longer profiles and they dont go all the way to the top on this stage.

From what i can see in my guide though, the first 3km are all around 6%, the next 2km are in the 9's then its double figures from 5 to 9 km followed by a short 2k descent right before the bit shown above.

Round 1.

I don't know if I would want to race on that, let alone do it for a normal weekend bike ride. **** that.

BTW Hitch can you get a smaller pic?

Right now im confused. I just edited out the most recent one thinking it was the old one. Now i realised that was probably the new one and i replaced it with the old one. Now its too late.

Be perhaps best if you put it in seeing as you know what your doing.

The one with the descent 3k from the finish is wrong?

When was it changed.

I'll take a hill - any hill - over trying to hang on to A-graders in crosswinds!

I love crosswinds when I'm on form, and I rate myself at going uphill, but the really steep stuff I struggle with, a climb like Etna suits me more.

Sad that they are not using the full climb up to the Fuschertörl or to the Hochtor. The climb to the Kasereck and from there to the Glocknerhaus isnt all that spectacular as you can see from the profile, its just a 6 kilometer section that is really steep.

They probably don't want the Cima Coppi to be in another country.

It''s a shame they changed this stage, they first finished after the steep part, sure the climb is longer now, but those final kilometers probably make it easier. Still, with stage 14 and 15 comming up, this is going to be a great re-introduction to the mountains for the peloton.

I think that's the reason why they are finishing lower. Giau is only 2236m.

Otherwise I think they would have at least gone to Franz Joseph (2369m). There are a couple of decent enough ramps in the final few km though.

The Tour of Austria this year will take the road to Kasereck, but then turn and go all the way past Hochtor to the top of the climb and down the other side. The toughest route of all is the other (Northern?) side which is over 18km at more than 9%.

ah it is hard at times living in paradise :p

crappy tv times for cycling, but otherwise paradise

Are you kidding. Watching it at like 11 is the absolute best.

Here in Europe where the races are all during summertime's at the points where the temperature is at its highest, i always feel bad that im sitting inside and watching the race rather than taking advantage of the sun. But you guys get it in the winter at night.

Means even those who have work, school etc can catch it.

Hence why I will be watch the reply Friday, Saturday and Sunday - plus the trouble and strife would kill me if the promised projects don´t get done this weekend.

Yes you are right, i remember Olympics 2010, I could watch almost everything, and if it was in Europe I would miss half of things .

well - the problem is that I am the only one in my household that watches cycling of any kind .... so trying to explain why I cant go out or do ... well anything... this weekend is difficult. LOL

In addition - the Giro, spring classics etc (actually everything bar the Tour) isnt shown on TV - and if it is, its on at 2.30 in the morning. :(

This year I have a saving grace - my broadband is finally good enough to get streaming .... so actually get it live at good times (8.30-11.30ish) which is VERY GOOD :D
