Giro d'Italia 2016 Rumours

Let's start this baby early. The great province of Gelderland, the Netherlands, is trying to get the start of the greatest race in the world. The plan is to host the start in Apeldoorn, and then have road stages that start and finish in Arnhem, and Nijmegen.

Don't they have this ~1km at ~9% climb in Nijmegen (probably a bit less/shorter)? Like, the only climb in the Netherlands outside of Limburg? That would at least make an interesting finale for a sprint stage, otherwise it will probably be pretty boring.

EDIT: ah yes they do though it's more like like 1km @ 7-8% with a 10% middle section.

these two are climbing the same hill (so they can't do both) a few km outside of the center of Nijmegen, so please do one of these and then finish in Nijmegen please whoever decides the route!

Yep, the oude holleweg and the nieuwe holleweg are basically the only 2 climbs outside limburg worth riding. They're next to each other so I don't see them using both. The road is very narrow so I'd be surprised if they used any of the hills at all. But i've been there, and that little climb is a *****, although I have to say i'm horribly out of shape.

I'd say the middle part is steeper than 10%, i've seen profiles estimate the steepest part up to 15%.

There are more small hills in the neighbourhood, but they're all really narrow, and off the main roads, so I wouldn't expect them to use it.

And yeah, sorry if Eshnar wanted to make the op

One would think to be somewhat safe, 8 months before the presentation... instead people manage to steal my threads like this

He's a mod, he'll probably just hijack the thread and edit the OP to fill it with rumours :p
Ofc I will. Right now however there's not enough stuff to come up with something that could resemble a complete route.

yeah, and then we all wake up in a sweat.

Anyway. As for now I can say:
After the Netherlands (IF they start there), transfer to northern Italy. Maybe in/near Liguria. Then, the route will go counterclockwise to its climax somewhere in the Dolomites I guess. Western Alps are quite unlikely atm.
There are rumours about the Vesuvio (I would guess at the end of the first week) and a MTF to Piancavallo (the one of 1998). Besides that, not much else.

I've done a couple of more hills in the neighbourhood this week, and will do a couple more, but I really do think the Oude Holleweg or Nieuwe Holleweg are the only candidates to be included, as you can turn on a main road after reaching the top.

Maybe there's a few bigger hills in Klebe, some 10km over the border, but I don't expect them to go there as surely the region wants to have all the action in these stages.

Bump.

Eshnar, I NEED MOAR GIRO!!!
waaaay too early. I can just confirm the rumours I posted above and add that Montevergine is very likely to get a stage (could also maybe a MTT OR a ITT in the nearby towns) and that there will be one or two stages in Friuli. However, as I said, nothing is certain at all.

From what I've heard the ITT won't be that long, but we should get one that is at least 40km long and a MTT that should be easier than the Monte Grappa MTT, more like your typical Giro MTT.

I hope it will be Kronplatz again.
I hope so too, but I haven't heared anything about that, last year they were pretty confident about getting a stage in the 2015 Giro but from what I know Madonna di Campiglio outbid them.
