You mean why they won't just put it out altogether? I would guess presenting a route without the grand depart would spark a lot of questions and make the organization look more chaotic than a late route reveal. It's an open admission that they f*cked up the planning phase of bringing the start to Albania and that they are way behind schedule in that regard. Only revealing the route to the teams has the same result for us hardcore cycling fans who spend hours on a forum discussing this stuff, but more casual fans will simply never take notice of what's going on this way.If it's gonna be common knowledge, I'm not sure why you just put it out altogether?
But then I have no idea what the economics of a route presentation are.
Would explain why they suddenly want an extra 3M from Enel to be the main sponsor of the maglia rosa.I find it much more plausible they are trying to negotiate with all 4 in parallel hoping to get 1 of them and none of them are biting.
It’s just a long-standing tradition in the cycling industry, and in industry (think fashion, smart phones, etc) in general when introducing a new “product.” Probably makes the media and corporate sponsors happy, but pretty irrelevent to fans except for providing a talking point in the off season. Why are they attempting to make these route announcements some sort of big thing anyway? Nobody cares. Upload a .pdf to your official website and you'll get the same amount of attention and spectators as you would with this whole charade.
Putting out a rumour of their participation makes excellent sense for the organiser looking for a jersey sponsor.Given this news, I just don’t see more than one out of Pogačar, Remco, Roglič and Vingegaard riding the Giro next year. There's just too much uncertainty associated with this race even when compared to the Vuelta
No Albania would probably mean a normal Saturday start and no extra rest day - unless they decide to start in some other crazy far flung place. The Giro was planned to start on friday with a rest day for the transfer. If Albania is out and they start in Italy, can they start on saturday without a rest day?
Wrong. No Albania would probably mean a normal Saturday start and no extra rest day - unless they decide to start in some other crazy far flung place.
I believe they can still change it.But with Albania out (most likely) that transfer day may not be needed anymore.
So they are forced by the UCI calendar to start on friday and have a rest day on monday no matter what?
yeah, UCI rules only allow two rest days anyway, the additional one is a "transfer day". So the date would most likely change if they don't start overseas.I believe they can still change it.
At the same time I wouldn't say the start from Albania is unlikely. Not yet.
Which I'm guessing is money problems. The presentation has been postponed due to internal problems of ours,
