You also used the worst possible climb before Tre Croci, with something more it's an acceptable stage.
Not sure if there is enough space at Col Drusciè to host a MTF, there is a parking lot, but the parking lot seems big enough.

If they need to go through Cortina, they can simply come from Giau, then leave the main road near the ski lifts at Lacedel to descend through either Mortisa or Meleres, which leaves the section of main road you need to get to Drusciè available to climb. In fact, from satellite images it looks like part of those roads have been repaved very recently, perhaps in anticipation of the 2025 Giro?

If they start in Udine and finish at Col Drusice, the only option should be to cross Giau. And do as many climbs before that within a reasonable length of the stage.

I went for the most plausible option from Udine.

But you can easily imagine the stage to start in Veneto, and then a loop like @Libertine Seguros mentioned can come in play.

Going through Cortina and length (and simplicity). Udine is just a pure guess and functions as a placeholder for a stage start in Friuli, it's probably more likely to start near Pordenone or in Veneto, if it comes after the two Friuli stages. But if I had to commit to a single bet on what RCS will serve if the stage goes from Udine to Col Druscié, that is what I find most likely. Much better options are available, but that is always the case.

My personal aspiration has declined so vastly. I'm fine with Stelvio - Bormio 2000.

It's realistic. Stelvio was strongly rumored for 2025. It means Stelvio would be ridden from the hard Prad am Stilfsersjoch side. Bormio 2000 is a nice average mtf to make long-range attacks stick. The ski station could potentially pay for it. Most important both Stelvio & Bormio get constantly cleared with a snowplow so the stage actually takes place.

Finestre will be at the Tour de France for its 20 years anniversary. That's what they pay for.

Everything else. Kronplatz / Corones, Würzjoch / Erbe, Jaufenpass / Giovo, Fauniera, Gavia. It's nice dreams but not happening.

Only Manghen - Alpe di Pampeago sounds like a good and realistic idea. Then again, Reiterjoch MTF from the South Tyrolian side would be better...

Bormio 2000 could happen because it's the 2nd place besides Cortina to hold Alpine Ski races at the 2026 Olympics, + 200 years Stilfser Joch road next year.
The climb from Prad is pure bike porn, best pass ever!

Btw, @Mayomaniac, have you climbed Drusciè? The road visible on satellite images from this year match the Google Street View images from 2011, but OSM shows a slightly different path for the road near the top.

It seems like a quite consistent climb on cyclingcols, but it's sometimes hard to judge even if the profile shows a lot of detail.

No, nearby MTB climbs and I've gone downhill on it. When I'm in Cortina on the road bike it's nearly always Giau or Falzarego/Valparola, sometimes both in one loop that starts and finishes in Cortina.

Last year it hosted a MTF in the Giro del Veneto, so it can at least host smaller MTFs. The results: https://www.procyclingstats.com/national-race/giro-del-veneto2/2023/stage-4

Cortina is a bit of a mess atm with tons of construction sites (I counted +20 tower cranes today). Speculation and investors are destroying the few things left that still make the town unique + nobody there seems to actually want the waste of money that is the bobsleight course, but that is another discussion.

Finally someone is mentioning the important things for next year. It will be the Giro before the 2026 Olympics in Lombardy, South Tyrol and Veneto. So I would assume, that we will see some of the places, where the olympic action in 2026 may be. This also could create hope for something in the Val di Fassa, maybe the Alpes of Pampeago, Gardeccia or Cermis? Maybe we also may see Antholz again, which is not great, but maybe with some more creative stage design even this breakaway MTF could become a GC day. Same applies for the arena in Verona, which will host the closing ceremony and the Giro did that too.

I'm rarely disappointed by the Tour rote because I have rater low expectations. But often by the Giro route. The expectations are much higher and the possibility for good stages so immense that RCA almost always makes something underwhelming.

Regarding the Col Drusciè, the Giro has actually finished there back in 1977. I also heard some rumors off Le Gruppetto that the final weekend would have a stage in the Aoste Valley, followed by Finestre/ Sestriere, similar to 2015. Then a final TT in Rome starting in the Vatican.
I don't know how true this is, maybe some of you on here ITK could help.

I just hope that we don't have ITT's as the last stage of a GT which happened in all three GT's in 2024. Not much GC action occur and it seems a waste of a stage.
