hard to balance that, I think. The climb includes 3k at 11%, so Aular can only survive it if the pace is slow. And normally it will only be slow, if the breakaway is far ahead.

If Aular is there after the climb, and the break only has 3-4 minutes, they may join in, but before, it doesn't really make sense to me.

They could possibly try to help keeping the break on a very short leash before the climb, then gamble with setting a moderate pace and then chasing mode to the line.

Nice and well designed stage. Long, a climb at the start, a hard climg a5 forty and an small climb close to the line.

If Bernal is bad, he can say good bye tomorrow. At the moment he didnt lose time, even gained bonus.

Hope at least some people of GC move tomorrow

It will be pretty windy again and there will also be rain showers during the stage. Of course this route isn‘t exactly De Moeren so I doubt the wind will be decisive but the weather might make it a bit more interesting.

It's a shame that GC will be decided by crashed or illnesses before the mountain stages even start.

So, will anyone go hard on Madonna di Viggiano to drop Arensman's Colombian mule, or is it better to make Ineos believe that he's still a top gc rider?

Bernal is just there to give Rick an argument why Roglic doesn't even have to take a 30 percent pay cut if he decides to keep going

RB should try to get Hindley in. Nobody has any idea what form he is in so there's a chance Visma take the risk, especially without Kelderman. Worst comes to worst he gets told to drop back
Theres no way Visma are falling asleep when it comes to a guy who won the last giro he finished? You'd be mad to give any time to Hindley here

Given that you made an entire poll just to talk about how geesus would take pink tomorrow, I am expecting big things.
last year he never tried to gain back time in breaks and that was probably his best chance to gain a buffer before theyd wise up

but theres still a tiny bit of hope left that tomorrow is his day

The idea of Gee taking pink recalls me of another English speaking rider taking pink from his Italian teammate many, many years ago.

Would love to believe it, but this is looking more like a typical Lidl c*ck-up. Send a team devoted to Milan, with only two climbers. One of whom is now in pink, but a terrible GC record. The other with a real chance in this field, but will now be a dom for someone who will inevitably crash/have a bad day.

Probably a break gets it and the Maglia Rosa changes hands again, perhaps to someone who isn’t a long term top 5 prospect like Pinarello.

With such a hard climb peaking 50km out from the finish the GC action will centre on the back door rather than attacks at the front with any rider losing contact halfway up the climb likely to lose several minutes by the finish.

Ciccone should go in the break. He's won the giro but he needs to win it more.
Gee won't be allowed in the break, he's a threat to entertaining cycling.

Ciccone can hold into that climb if it is not raced hard by Jonas. And He will keep the jersey. Jonas will wait for Blockhaus IMHO. Tomorrow it will be a smaller group going to the finish.

Lidl's flagrantly anti-Gee team selection will be good for the race tomorrow, as usually they would do some honouring the jersey gimmick but I don't fancy your Max Walscheid's who looks like a heavyweight boxer controlling that difficult start. Never seen such a good Ciccone stage but will be be allowed in the move.

What will be interesting to see is if people like Magnus Sheffield and Jack Haig start dancing up the climb like they were saving energy today. If it happens then there needs to be some public hangings like in times of old, at the very least punches should correctly be thrown on the Ineos team bus.

If some team paces the climb like Movistar did yesterday, some suspects might drop again. Looking at you Egan Bernal.

I think that with a flat sprint day tomorrow and Blockhaus being almost an Unipuerto a GC team, maybe one that has satellites, is going to give it a proper go after Viggiano and perhaps set the table for Visma.

Ciccone holding the jersey for a few days would be pretty big for Italian media, since he's part of that friend group in Monaco with the Red Fox of Monaco and Antonelli, the new F1 star.

he better get in the break then , as lidl dont have the team to control a big break nor a finale with so many within striking distance

I'm really looking forward to this stage, it could be a banger for sure. A lot of riders will fancy their chances for a stage win and the maglia rosa but Ciccone will do whatever he can to keep it. Trek doesn't have the team to control a break through, so I expect Ciccone to join the break himself. Now the question is whether Visma will allow that? They're probably not too worried about it, but it would mean that they would have to control the break all day to not give them too much of a gap.

Other riders that should fancy their chances include Christen, Romo, Scaroni, Leknessund, Narvaez, Arrieta, Sheffield etc.

I honestly doesn't really think it even needs much of that celebrety connection. Fighting for the stage win at the Blockhaus in pink is the basically the biggest thing Ciccone can achieve in cycling, and therefor I also expect the team to invest more than they normally should.

I also don't see the stage as too difficult to control. But of course, it's still far from a given that they will succeed.
