Ordinarily I'd say this would be a straight-forward GC day ... easy to control and easy for Jonas to take more time, plus a rest day tomorrow would usually equal a simple Visma chase and win for Jonas.

However, I wonder if Visma might ride more conservatively. If Diego Sevilla gets into the break then any mountains points he collects will relieve Jonas of podium responsibilities for maybe 5 days. But if Jonas wins then he's locked into that probably for the rest of the race.

It might seem like a small thing but I don't think it's nothing.

This should be the day that Lidl Trek commit to getting Ciccone in the break and using their big men to keep the break together until the climb. After that, it should be a formality for Ciccone.

Not a GC stage but a super easy stage to control for Visma, Jonas can win this stage if he wants to but everything depends on whether he wants to give the fans a show.

Hmm. On the one hand, it should be one of the easier days for Visma to control, their doms won't have to do any work for several days after, and Jonas wouldn't have to spend much energy to win the stage, so a lot speaks in favor of a Vingegaard win. On the other hand, it's a lot of work just to secure a stage win as the time gained won't be much on a stage like this, and I really think that Visma/Vingegaard will try to spend as little energy as possible this Giro. All in all, I don't think that Visma will control this, so it should go to the break. Ciccone is the obvious pick in that scenario.

What i've been saying all along. Visma will just want to get back some time on Eulalio and then there's the ITT which should put even more time into the opposition. The Giro is just a warm-up for the Tour for Vingegaard.
The worst case for Visma today would be if someone like Arensman,Storer or Gee goes up the road and the break needs to be kept on a short leash.

I don't think there's any chance either of those attacks today, so that's not a concern.

Normally, you would back Vinge on such a stage, but he didn't look good on Blockhaus in relative terms imo, so he might be a bit defensive and let other GC riders dicate today.
Somebody from Astana or UAE could take it from a break.

exactly

milan needs magnier joining and then to be willing to pull while paul doesnt if he wants to go up the road too , i can see that with walscheid as the third lidl rider in the break

bahrain should then peg it around four or five minutes

the pre-stage interview so far sound more it'll be a GC day. Van Eetvelt expects the breakaway to have "slim chances" only. Gall wants his team to control, and hopes for others to join in.

Yeah the mountain jersey on Vingegaards shoulders is the one thing that could annoy Visma. If he wins today he'll basically be locked into that for the whole next week (plus having to wear it in the TT).
But to refuse a potential was to achieve victory because of that seems a bit over the top, surely it's the birthday of some random family member of Vingegaard that is enough reason to win.

Looking at the time gaps from 22 years ago on this climb, it seems that the favourites will not be coming to the finish line in small group.

Separation will occur. The decisive moves are certain to happen in the last 2.5km.
I see Vingegaard getting a 10-15sec gap on Hindley and Gall. The rest of the top 10 on GC will be spread out over 1min 30 secs behind.

Vingegaard will take the stage as I don't think the break will be given the chance with the rest day coming.

Euladio to hold onto pink.

I got confused watching a bigger group upfront.
Then the camera changed and realized that it's just the usual moto draft...
