Giro D'Italia: Stage 5: Piombino - Orvieto 191 Kms

I can't take anymore talking about WW. My life has never been impacted as much as this...by someone I don't even know. It has been a mind blowing past 24 hours.

I wouldn't mind moving on a bit today. I know normally an admin makes a thread by now but I haven't seen it.

Any thoughts on Stage 5?

I would like to see Pineau or even Hoogerland jump off the front. I am unsure if the hills will be too much for them.

It might be a Garzeli or Anton type of day.

It's a stage on Strade Bianche.

Edit your post and put the profile on it and you have the stage 5 thread :)

No one will be angry at you or something, the race will go on in honour of WW.

I think stage 5 will be back to business and lots of Italians will be looking to win a stage at this years Giro so there'll be no gifts.

It is usually done by you guys. Some fight over the honour. Hair-pulling, wedgies, finish line head-butting and door-closing manoeuvres that are fine as they don't also endanger a fellow poster gathering speed. It can get quite messy between the keenest amongst us :D

We just sticky them when their time has come.

Looks like a very Tirreno-Adriatico finish. You can bet any remaining Leopard riders will be fighting like never before for a stage. Here I suspect Wegmann is the best bet (he was 2nd in Eroica a couple of years ago), but I really don't know if they'll be able to pull it off either physically or emotionally. I think nobody, nobody at all, would begrudge them it.

Maybe one of the moderators can update the title so that includes the starting and ending towns along with the length of the stage. Right now it gives the impression that this thread is about whether there will be a stage 5 or if it it will be raced.

My apologies. I didn't realize it would become the 'official' thread.

If an admin can then that would be great.

As far as Leopard ....I am a huge Rohregger fan. I wonder if he would be up for this!

I think Alberto will lose some time here, but because of bad luck. Though he does seem in amazing shape if we can believe the Fischer story(already wanted to attack on stage 3, but Fischer told him not to or something, I don't know why)

I hope someone of Leopard will win, but can't see who. Unless they decided to retire now?

Something like that would be nice.

Anyone think millar can hold onto pink? Possibly depends on how hard they race. Think this is probably to selective for the majority of sprinters. May be to soon for one of the big boys to push for pink and put team under pressure. My pick for the stage, either nordhaug from the break or pineau.

some guys will try to catch some bonus seconds ahead of alberto especially scarponi.i think di luca and sella might be in the mix too.

Di Luca lost time already, no? Don't think he'll do much.

I think Millar will hold on over the Strade Bianchi but lose touch on that final ramp, he doesn't do well on the really steep stuff.

Before Etna stage it is all just a speculation.:)

BTW, what do you guys about the fact that nearly all of SBS's roster were dropped on yesterday's climb. Do Navarro and Hernandez just saving themselves for brutal mountains or really are out of shape?

I don't expect big differences, certainly not among the GC-favorites. The hills themselves don't appear to be that difficult, and most of the strade bianchi are downhill. I would guess a 50 men group going to Orvieto, and the little bumb on the end causing some small gaps. The boni seconds could probably be more decisive.

I think an ideal situation for me is for a Leopard rider to be off the front at the last climb; Rohregger, Wegmann, Zaugg... any of the riders, but I suspect those may be the most likely. They've got a fast fading advantage with some exciting racing behind, and nobody knows if they can hold on. They're caught just before the line, but like Bert Dietz, are allowed to take the win.

Saving them self, they did this last year as well.
