Giro Wild-cards Monday

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/could-vacansoleil-miss-out-on-a-place-at-the-giro-ditalia

Lord Angelo promises surprises.

Personaly i would support Vacan not being at the Giro so long as they rider the Tour, because i would so much prefer Colnago CSF there and this way they miss out.

But the important thing is that Geox do get invited. Because if they dont the whole season gets turned on its head.

It looks likely but the Tour looked likely as well.

Agreed. Without Ricco, Vacansoleil bring nothing to the table that CSF could not provide.

Pozzovivo just adds one more name to the long list of featherweights that will be flying up (insert brutal mountain of your choice).

If Mosqeura is cleared then yes I agree, him at the giro would be quite cool. Otherwise I'm not to worried if Vasc. get an invite or not. I just wouldn't want it to open a precedent for them to miss out on other races.

Geox must be there!
Pozzovivo must be there!
I really like Vacansoleil but without Mosquera they just go for the sprints and breakaways and that is not enough for this Giro :(

There is an agreement in place that says Vacansoleil will ride so I would disagree with them not being invited. That being said there might be other teams that would bring more to the race. I hope Geox are invited as they should have a strong team to support Menchov. Androni Giocattoli should get a spot, even without Sacrponi, as they should be able to put together a decent team. With Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli guarenteed it leaves one spot that I would give to Colnago-CSF Inox because of Pozzovivo

It's not just Vacansoleil who will bring less than CSF Colnago to the Giro.
There are a whole bunch of "privileged" squads who are expecting to turn up, without a decent contender/sprinter in their ranks.

I don't know if Vacans are planning to bring them, but with Marcato and Carrara they have two very strong Italians on their team. It seems like Cyclingnews (and specifically this guy Stephen Farrand) think that team was all about Ricco. That's a bit unfair, and TBH I think for a Vacans fan (which I'm not) these tendentious articles could get annoying after a while.

It is annoying, many of the riders from Vacansoleil get disregarded while they are better than many other Pro Tour riders. It's not a secret that Vacansoleil was top 10 in the CQ ranking last year and that is not because of Ricco...

I wish cycling journalists would do their work better. Come on, you get paid for this, do some proper research.

Geox will not get Giro, they even didnt got Tirreno (where Menchov and Sastre can be good) and Primavera so do you realy believe that they will?
Geox is the biggest mistake of Menchov but i suppose after WC presentation he will contract with Katusha or Astana

If Geox doesnt get them, I doubt Menchov will stay seeing Geox mostlikely wont get Vuelta wildcards either then..

geox will enter in il giro.it's 99% sure.

i'm a vacansoleil fan but there is no way in hell they can succesfully ride the classics and all the three grand tours.without ricco and eze,it's logic that they won't be invited in giro.colnago will take their place.

If you really think that then you don't know the Vacansoleil squad at all.

For the classics they already didn't need Ricco and Mosquera. They have Devolder (2x RVV winner), Leukemans (plenty top 5 + top 10 in RVV/PR and even in AGR), Marcato (top 10 AGR), Carrara, Hoogerland (top 5 lombardy), and so on.
For the grand tours, yes they miss a GC leader now, but they still have plenty of sprinting talent with Feillu and Bozic, which definately adds to a grand tour as well. For small tours Devolder can do well (top 3 suisse in the past) as well as Carrara and Poels and even Hoogerland if he peaks well (top 5 meditterraneen last year, 12th vuelta).

They simply have more than enough talent to justify a GT spot ahead of teams like Colnago, even without Ricco and Mosquera

I, not so sure that Geox will get. 3rd TDF place-man and ex winner is good adv men but Zomengan dont intro them to Tirreno. Dont forget that RTS and ASO are in infinite war so this step is not normal and economiacly understandable.

Yes but only Vacan have a chance of getting kicked out.

If there was a chance BMC or AGR could be kicked out in favour of COlnago or Sapone, i would support that as well.

I certainly hope no Vacansoleil because withour ricco and eze I rather have Pozzovivo.

those riders and results mean nothing in a grand tour. they have nothing to go for in the giro.

neither were androni, type 1, colnago etc invited for tirreno, that means nothing. geox will certainly get an invite as zomegnan wants all the big riders in he can get and with geox he can score points over the tour who won't have them that's why I think he will leave vacansoleil out as they are in the tour and rujano, serpa, sella, pozzovivo, garzelli, duarte, menchov, sastre, betancourt etc won't be

A year too early (at least) for Team Type 1.

A few years ago I said the Pro Tour was too big at 20 teams with respect to wild cards, 18 is probably too high as well I guess. :(

ANgelo isnt stupid.

If he invites Geox he gets a super team. He gets a tdf winner and 3 time gt winner and possibly the best climbing squad around.

Its like taking candy from a baby.

No questions, you abs right but why he didnt invite them to Tirreno, this race needds much more adv than Giro? I cant find logical solution except somebody dont wanna seen Geox in peloton.
