Obviously today was not ideal but as of now there is no reason for Bora to change anything in their approach. It's not like Hkndley is setting the world on fire either and the next gc srage is a TT. Just wait and see how it goes, hope it's just a sickness that will pass, and make a decision on leaders and whatnot later in the race.

He already looked troubled on Capodarco yesterday but luckily for him nobody pushed the pace until the final km.
Today was very likely his worst climbing performance since joining Red Bull.
I think he's paying the prices of going too deep on Blockhaus and getting sick might be a consequence.

If he recovers, he still has a shot at the podium but he could be 3 minutes down on Arensman after the TT.

You don't get sick by going deep.

I mean there was no indication whatsoever, during the buildup season, so i feel that RBH won't change their strategy. That is RBH leaders must fight it out in between themself and so both Giulio and Jai are free to do whatever they want in this regards. The same can be said for Lipo and Remco at the Tour.

Now if podium positions will come, OK. If not, then this strategy is counter productive.

@Brullnux

Hierarchy lesson.

@Oldman

I mean if RBH won't podium neither at Giro/Tour, then the strategy they choose is likely flawed. We'll see.
For RBH....that goes without saying. Payroll and personnel would suggest they could achieve both. Then along comes Decathalon, punchy Movistar and a never quit UAE/band of brothers. All of which can derail the best of plans.

You don't get sick by going deep.
But with going to Deep your Body shuts down lot of normal activities and your immune System is also down (Open Window) and it is more likely to pick up bacteria etc. Which your immune System normally can hold off, but After a to big effort can‘t do this anymore.

This joke or something..for sure you precisely do get sick by going deep - too long. Not gonna start lecture here, but of course it's so.

And he's had quite heavy early season, so..

Please do start the lecture. I have no idea why it would be so. Maybe a tiny increase in susceptibility to infections but it can't be a lot.

Decent effort given the last three days. I don't know if it's a sign of him getting better or having become very good at TTs, probably/hopefully the former.

Tomorrow is tricky, but he could be back on track on Saturday and definitely next week – though it remains to be seen how much this took out of him. In 2024, he was sicker than this and was in career best form in the third week regardless, so he has history of recovering well after illness.

He should be just fine for the weekend, even tho he stated that today he was missing around 25W for the crono 😮‍💨

So dissapointing, he got sick when he was in fine form, Will have to wait till the next Giro to see his level again as a GT podium contender.

The jury is out on this one. You can get 'sick' symptoms for a load of reasons as a GT rider. One of them is going too deep in the pre-race training to step up to a higher level and cooking yourself before the race even starts.

I don't trust team PR either. It seems strange to me how a rider who attempted to follow Vingegeaard has been going backwards since he got blown off his wheel.

Why is that strange? You can get sick and then underperform. When in the race it happens has nothing to do with it

Because it shows intent and belief he could last the distance. My opinion? He went way too deep and fried himself.

I think so too for Blockhaus, but that didn’t influence his later performances, those were affected by illness. I also don’t think RBH said Pellizzari was sick during Blockhaus stage
