Just sayin, the more Goss wins, the more definite it is that Cav will be moving to Sky for 2012.

Hats off to Bob S for identifying another super young talent!

You do realise that he became pro with Bjarne Riis.

Htc wont drop cav because one of his leadout men is performing well. Look at EBH and Greipel.

In every race Cav's best lead out men ride for other teams

Cav will likely go to the highest bidder. Makes perfect sense - his next contract will cover his peak years, and he owes it to himself to get set up for life.

The only team for whom he would be worth more than HTC would be Sky, so it really depends if James cares enough to pony up - probably more likely than not right now.

Today wasn't the first time he excels in chaotic sprints. To tell you the truth aren't most of his wins from chaotic sprints? Sligthly uphill or twisty roads? An A-level sprinter in those conditions but not on the straight flat road I believe.

Yeah because after Griepel won all those races at the start of last year they put him in M-SR over Cav......oh wait, they still sent Cav.

It's way to early in the season to even hint at that claim. He may well go to Sky if they offer the big bucks and an environment that suit him, who knows. The reason Goss is going well atm is because he's trying to impress management so he can go to the TDF and he generally seems to go well early in the season.

What a silly statement

His first Classic of the year will be Milan-San Remo next week. "It all depends on the race," he said. "If (Mark) Cavendish is at the front, I'll probably help him, if not, I'll race for myself."

if the offer is right Cav will stay with HTC in my opinion. He seems happy enough there, the team is set up for him and I seriously doubt he will go anywhere without Renshaw.

As well as Goss is doing, he is not up to Cav's level yet. Cav is still very much No.1 in Stapleton mind and he will do his utmost to retain him I am sure. But I guess we've got another 7 months of speculation, conjecture and rumour.

If I were Stapleton I would keep both Goss and Cav. Both amiable, different in persona, Anglo and epic riders. Stapleton won't let go of either of them, thems bread and butter sprinters!

I almost suspect the opposite - so many people like to ignore the 2008 & 2010 Tours, and large parts of the rest of his calender where he happily wins without Renshaw.

Renshaw is great at what he does, but when it comes to being the best lead-out in the world, I suspect the sprinter makes the wing man more than vice-versa.

you may be right. and if he did go to sky he could have a ready made replacement in Thomas.

Well, if the OP had put 'Geraint's awesomeness plus Murdoch's money = Cav to Sky' as the thread title then I might have more time for it.

Looks like Sky CAN have a train for Cav and still have 6 people riding in support of Wiggo.

Although we'll see what Mark Renshaw has to say about it when the full A teams line up...

What? Now there's grammar police on this forum???? Sheesh!

Goss wins, spouts off the CN.com that "maybe I'll take M-R for myself", ya think Cav is going to stand for that?

Granted I was watching on TV about 3000 miles away, but it looked like Renshaw had to talk Cav off the ledge at TDU, upset that he was about Goss winning and he just riding around.

We've already seen it, there can be only ONE

If they can get Cav, Wiggo and the G.C. could go out the window. Sky I think are in a state of flux. I don't think anyone could complain if they did just go for the sprints. It's pretty exciting just to speculate on it.

If Sky can can get Cav, I think Wiggo and the G.C. might take a back seat for a while. It'll be intresting to see how it pans out.
I'm sure most people wouldn't mind if they went for the sprints. He would look good in a Sky kit.

It's so exciting even to speculate on this.:D

Cav is so up and down with his form though. When he is in form there is no doubt Goss should be leading him out, but will he be in form at MSR? Last year it took him 6 months before he showed any form. He hasn't shown any this year. Surely Cav can't expect the highly talented leadout train to put their ambitions on hold while he fiddles around trying to find the overdrive gear. There was nothing wrong with what Goss said. he was stating the obvious, if Cav can't get over the Poggio then HTC go to Plan B... and it's a pretty good Plan B.

This is the key difference in Cav-Greipel and Cav-Goss.

Cav-Goss have an amicable relationship, if not more than that. Cav is obviously #1, but is happy to see Goss win races, and would be happy to see Goss win a sprint he couldn't contend.

If this was Greipel last year, they couldn't have been in the same race together. Not that Greipel was even close to being as good a chance as Goss is for M-SR. The Cav-Greipel relationship was broken down to the point where neither were racing together, and neither wanted to see the other win.

Goss is a better chance than Cav, but that is just my biased opinion. Cav could still hit a rich vein in T-A and come on strong, there is certainly no reason why they can't both race it. Renshaw is never going to make the end so it would be huge if Cav had a leadout man there with him. Either way HTC have a very good chance of winning on Saturday week.

While i agree that it makes commercial sense for "britains" pro team to sign the british worlds best sprinter, I personally hope it doesnt happen, it would distrupt the squad too much and we would risk losing EBH, Henderson etc.

However, If cavendish did go to sky I think it unlikely that they would base the team around him and provide him with a sprint train.

Sky have already shown in other races this season what their approach is, and they are showing it again in Paris Nice, focus on GC, put a two man sprint team in place, and have other riders lose time early for possible stage wins later in the race (Uran).

The two man team has worked for them before, Hendo and Downing last year, Downing and Appollonio this year, along with Thomas and Henderson. And its worked just fine for some past riders, McEwan springs to mind, when did he ever have a train. If cav does go to sky I hope he doesnt think he will get more than one or two leadout men.

Yes, and Cav would also work as a get out of jail free card for them. In a few years time when someone brings up that they haven't won the Tour like they said they would they could simply reply "Well, yes but then we signed Cavendish and when you have the best sprinter in the world you have to take advantage of that so winning the Tour took a backseat" and people would swallow that whole and there would be no failure in sight.
