I watched TdS 2201 on TV (either Eurosport international or ADR, satellite anyroad ) and was always bemused by the response of Armstrong when first Belli and then Simoni attacked and dropped him. Belli and Simoni were both hoping for a stage victory and GC. Koneykec (Spelling), the lone break, held out but Belli and Simoni gained time on Armstrong I think Belli took the jersey but lost it later to Armstrong in the tt (as was expected)
As Belli and Simoni pushed on, Armstrong stopped racing and made a call on his mobile phone. Which for a rider, so late in a stage was , quite frankly, bizarre.
Later, probably the next day, the commentator explained that Armstrong had been calling his trainer, Ferrari, for advice and then said " and for those of you who question Armstrongs stance, let me tell you he has just bought blood testing equipment for the UCI" (not an accurate recollection - just how i remember it)
anyone else watch this stage?
thanks
