Name change

Looking at Gerrans there in his Sky kit has reminded me to ask. Does anyone know the exact situation regarding GE and the riders officially becoming part of the team....is it Jan 1st? Are some eligible already? I noticed other photos with Cam Meyer on the track in his old gear.
I know there was a lot made about the event at the Town Hall but won't the whole belonging to another team affect any unveiling event and that they are possibly waiting till after Jan 1st (if my dates are right) to get recognize the team when the riders are officially GE riders?
Roll on Jan 1st and the Bay crits, weather has been super here in Melbourne and hopefully it holds out for the upcoming racing. What do our resident experts think will happen if the podium is up for grabs and the leading riders are the GE guns like Goss, Howard or McEwan or the 2nd GE team (Micheltown Wineries) with Alby and Cooke shepherding around the young guns, Hepburn,Durbridge and Lane? Can't see Davis or Cooke backing off to let Goss in for a win :)

"Goss said there would be plenty of rivalry between both outfits as riders jockey for position within the start-up team - Australia's first on cycling's WorldTour.

"I don't know how it's going to work - maybe we'll have to try and get in their ear and get them to help us,'' Goss joked."

I mentioned a lot earlier in this thread that I think they will use Simon Clarke in the Ardennes type role....not sure if he would be an out and out climber but going to watch what they do with him with interest. Anyone who knows Clarke got a good insight into how they think he will develop?

Don't know enough about Beppu to know what his capabilities are but the team either see potential in that area for him OR want to ease him out of doing the cobbled classics. As karlboss mentions, there is no mention of anything like him becoming a specialist climber.

This is pretty much the industry standard. Riders are officially under contract to their old team until Dec. 2011, so they train and perform in public in the kits of their old teams.

There are some times it gets stupid; Alejandro Valverde was able to train in Movistar kit whilst banned because he was theoretically no different from any Fred wearing the full team kit, but once he was announced as joining Movistar he couldn't do it anymore, because the UCI are insane.

I don't think he was meant to do that either. Basso trained in nondescript kit and not on a Trek when he got his ban.

I don't think he was meant to either (the team bike is more of an issue since he could theoretically have bought his own kit, but where else was he going to get a team bike?), but the UCI only moved to stop him once he was becoming part of the team. I mean, several pictures surfaced of him in his Movistar gear on rides. Weird.

Actually it looks like the border of the black area is slanted/curved downwards toward the left of the jersey, so it's not quite so similar to the LT jersey. Still v. similar though.

So where did this jersey come from? Might be a Bay Crit jersey? Very Leopard Trek design...
