Stupid story. Grewal is a headcase. Lots of guys go through that and they don't spit at the camera.

Winning the gold medal in a BOYCOTTED Olympics one day road race was not exactly a big deal.

Grewal didn't have what it takes to compete in Europe. His desire to comeback and race in the Quiznos is stupid.

You people are too easily impressed.

Awesome find. I particularly liked reading the account of the 1984 Olympics road race. An excellent story to be sure.

Seconded! The sport got quite a bit harder at that level in manners that did not suit him. (motos with cameras in your face) No excuses for spitting. None. Clearly he didn't modify his behavior after the incident to satisfy his employer either.

Pumping up a compelling story so he can get some sympathy is enabling his kind of crazy. If the comeback can make him a better father, and get him into steady money, then go for it. But I don't see how it would.

IMHO, I think it's a distraction to keep his attention away from his big, difficult personal issues.

I can't believe you guys actually care if he spit on a camera. It's not like he killed 2 babies or something...

Most of these journalists and camera men deserve to be spit on anyway.

It seems like you're conflating the fact that people find his writing impressive with the idea that people find his riding impressive.

I don't care who else spit at a camera or didn't, or how successful he was, I thought that was a well-written piece of prose.

Or head butted someone in the World Cup.

Athletes have been losing it for years, and they will continue to. While the first few posts on Alexi's blog were hard to get the latest have been well written and insightful. I don't condone his behavior but I did find his account of it interesting.

I remember watching it that day. And I remember saying to my friend "That camera's WAY closer than I could handle"...and then he spit. And I remember saying "Right on!"

And yes, his account of the Olympic Road Race was a very well-written insight as to how the day went down. Davis could have been Olympic champion if not for his f-ing vanity.

Alexi IS a good writer. I'm dumbfounded that he's not tried to parlay that talent into a decent freelance writing career.
