Hair Samples and Clenbuterol

The German table tennis player who was 'acquitted' of a Clenbuterol doping charge said that he provided a hair sample which cleared him of wrong-doing.

What does a hair sample have to do with it, and why haven't we been hearing about Contador's hair?

Length of hair relative to time could work in Contador's favor, but would most likely be inconclusive either way, due to the delay in testing:

Slightly more info here. The gist of it is that the table tennis chap was able to prove that all of the people who ate the contaminated meat had clen in their systems.

the ping pong guy tested positive in china, where clenbuterol use in meat is more common. it is virtually unheard of in spain, where it is banned. this makes contadopers story hard to believe.

Is it me or does Contador not seem to be working very hard to come up with anything in his defence.

A tuft of hair as long as the diameter of a pencil gives a 90-day history. Thus, about 2cm give a half year history. The ping pong player had a single spike of Clen in his urine/blood test, but was negative in the hair test.

What would Contador's hair tell us? A +ive would prove repeated administration. A -ive would aid his ping pong player defense.

Contador should volunteer it.
UCI should ask it.

I know this because I have seen him at press outings. He was only programmed for bicycle riding.

You've got some very slow growing hair if that's true. Some things might stay in the system quite long and thus give you a longer history. It's even possible that the hairsack gives a longer history and that you can as a rule get 90 days from a very short hair,. but that would mean that you can't just multibly with the visible hairlenght to get a longer history.

ETA: Also a hair sample might not prove anything because if he got a Clen from a blood transfusion there's no telling how far back he actually took the Clen.
