Happy 2011 Multi-Cultural Celebrations

Happy multicultural celebrations to all CN forumites!

Don't know all the preferences here but if you are one of:
- Ramadan (Muslim)
- Eid al-Fitr (Muslim)
- Christmas Day (Christian)
- Saint Nicholas Day (Christian)
- Eid'ul-Adha (Muslim)
- Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexican)
- St. Lucia Day (Swedish)
- Hanukkah (Jewish)
- Three Kings Day/Epiphany (Christian)
- Boxing Day (Australian, Canadian, English, Irish)
- Kwanzaa (African American)
- Omisoka (Japanese)
- or other....
then put your tidings or related whatevers here.

I'll just say Merry Christmas and start off with this:

Saint Nicholas Day is my favourite, i've always liked it more than Christmas, moreover it's "my" holiday 'cause Nicholas is how my name sounds in English.

You left out Festivus.

Happy 2011 Multi-Cultural Celebrations? Is this some politically correct term for saying Merry Christmas?

Well, if I just say MC, then maybe not everyone will chime in. I just want everyone to take part seeing as how we have a global forum. It would be interesting to see what flavors we have represented here.

See... there ya go. Another flavor. No commercialization in this forum.

Amazingly it seems that not everyone is Christian and that non-Christian festivals also take place around this time of year. Some people, not being Christian, celebrate one of these rather than Christmas. Who'd have thunk it?

On another note, Festivus gets my vote.

Us atheists need something to celebrate. Festivus will do nicely. It's certainly better than a made-up holiday like kwanzaa.

I challenge you to a physical feat! Bring it!

I'd love if we celebrate it, 5 days of holiday plus Christmas would be great.

As such the major Ganapati festival is Vinayakar Chaturti
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh_Chaturthi

December is largely devoid of festivals for non Abrahamic religions.

So then it's as I suspected? Pancha Ganapati is something contrived by the right-wing nationalists of Hinduism Today magazine?

I haven't even heard of the magazine. A quick google shows that it isn't even published in India. It seems it's distributed here and that seems stupid, there are more than enough sane religious magazines which don't make up festivals.

Their front page says join the hindu renaissance, best to ignore such magazines.

The St. Michaels Air Natl. Guard in Maryland wants to say Merry Christmas with some elaborate yard decorations:

:D That's some good stuff right there.

Where did you get those pics from? I'd like to forward a link to a few people if I could. Best lawn display I've seen yet!
