I watched the TDF 3 years in a row,and then it bit me square in the read end! :p

I am getting more into cycling with each race, and hope to learn more each time.

Recently I found out that Dish network has a channel that showed some races, but not all
that I would like to see........any online real time or taped I can watch.........

I am in the United States, Alabama.

Hi,
the best you can do is watch races from recent years (with solid commentary if possible :D ) and the you will completely fall in love with cycling. You've got plenty of work before Giro starts :)

Enjoy! (esp classics)

Welcome to cycling ...it takes awhile to get full immersed but once you do you will love it forever...Helps to follow some riders
As an American you might want to follow US riders like TJ Van Garderen or Andrew Talansky

Some of the great rivlas at the moment are Contador V Froome V NibaliVQuintana ...might want to pick one of these

You can get alot of footage on Youtube

Some races to watch (imo) are

Vuleta a Espana 2012 /2013
Tour de France 2011/2013

Ya I'd agree...to some degree I guess it depends on who you like.

If you are going to watch gt's the best to watch would be
2007, 2009, 2010 Tour's
2008, 2011 Giro's
2008, 2012, 2014 Vuelta's
Those are always a joy. Oh and you'll want to keep an eye on the Giro coming up in May...

I dont think it depends on who do you like, there was only one good stage and that was the one which argyllflyer noted. :)

Besides the riders already mentioned, as a US American, you might want to keep an eye on Carter Jones and Lawson Craddock. Especially the latter, who has huge things ahead of him. Great riders.

Some more races to watch are last year's Tour of Utah, Tour de Suisse '12, Milano - Sanremo '13, the Grands Prix Cyclistes of Québec and Montréal, except last year's. Pffttt, so many more.

Have fun.

I think they'll have enough on their plate as it is just following current cycling and getting to know at least the WT riders, which is no mean feat but is highly advisable to enjoy the sport to the fullest. I wouldn't recommend watching old races on top of that just yet.
As an American you might want to follow US riders
DO NOT WANT

Tour de France 2011/2013

Holy bad selection of races.

MSR 2013/2011
Ronde 2011/2010 (pretty much any year before the course change)
Roubaix 2011/ 2009 (2012/2010 are good in a weird way)
Dauphine 14 was not a bad call but i don't think the dauphine is a race that really deserves to be re-watched overall
Liege 2012/2010/2008
Giro 2010 (best grand tour i have ever watched, can't believe it has been 5 freaking years), 2011 and at least the monte pora stage of 2008
Vuelta meh, youtube racing. 2012 good because of the fuente de stage but you can pretty much re-watch everything important with 10 minute youtube clip.
Tour 07, 10 were good, and the last week of 09,11 were also good.
GdL 2010 also belongs on this list
as do some editions of AGR pre 2011 ( it used to be a much better race)
oh and E3 2011, Omloop 2012

I feel a bit like an hipster for not having any recent races, bit truth is the classics have been rather crap for the past few years (without outside factors like freak weather). I feel like crying everytime i think about the ronde post course change, even more so when the 2011 edition was so damn good

Man thats too obvious :D

+2011 Tour
+2010 Giro
+2011 Vuelta!

And I do agree with Parrulo, classics has been rubbish for last few years.Maybe a 2013 Roubaix and 2014 Omloop I would add.

Geez man, I guess you don't know what "DO NOT WANT" stands for. It's just a way of saying en emphatic "NOOOOOOO". Anyway, my strong dislike for nationalism has nothing to do with my being a "know-it-all".

I wasn't necessarily meaning you were a know it all ...but come to think about :D :D
Sometimes when you get into a sport it helps to follow your own countries riders ...its what most people do and its not a sin

I chose races in the very recent history and as I said they were my opinion but happy to have a list of top 10 races to watch including GT/Cobbled Classics if you want to see the excitement of the sport and learn about it

Cmon, 2014 was overall the best (cobbled) classics year in recent memory.
Ohh cmon! Only omloop and dwaars were good races, anything else was very avarage.

Ronde and Roubaix average? even Kuurne delivered that year (for Kuurne standards obviously).
Yep,and I think lot of people would agree with me.IMO it was avarage and worse than 2013.
