On the map for the Tour de France stages, there's an orange line (not the race route) for "hors course". I've been wondering for YEARS what that was supposed to mean, and failed comprehensively to figure that out for exactly that long. Help?

This is the route for technical vehicles (trucks, team buses, etc.) so they can reach the finish without having to interfere with the race.

The alternative route for journalists and others to drive to get to the finish.
