Hot racing coming up in Australia

The women will continue their Aussie adventure with the Schwalbe Classic over the next few hours. It's the first and last time this particular race, which has previously been held as an hour long criterium, will be a UCI race, in celebration of the TDU's 25th anniversary and as a tribute and a farewell to the course in Adelaide, which won't feature in future editions.

It's the same format as the men's stage with 20 laps for a total length of 90 km. It will start in about an hour and it's expected to finish at around 3 o'clock CET. The start list is pretty much the same as for the TDU, so I expect Dygert, Rüegg, Wollaston and the other fast riders to duke it out in the final.

way back when, I remember they used to have just a set of 30min+1lap criteriums around Adelaide as part of the TDU, saw Tiffany Cromwell racing for her South Australia club in one of them, so it was a local race for her, well before she got signed up as a pro rider.

shame no-one seems to be broadcasting it internationally
:(

Copponi takes it. She wasn't the hottest favourite, but she can sprint very well on her day. Also not often that a specific finish line celebration gets an encore.

FDJ had a horrible first half of the race with Wollaston crashing and getting a mechanical shortly after she had come back, which eventually meant they couldn't lead her out at the finish. She did finish 7th though so it could have been worse. It seemed like Dygert was in fine position, but hear and Barbieri's attack in the final probably didn't help either of them during the sprint.

The question is who will miss out from the TDU team? My guess is Stewart.
Hepburn, according to the preliminary startlist for the Surf Coast Classic on PCS.

Gotta admit it took me some time realising who you were talking about as I hadn't read the initial post from RHD. I was like 'when did Jayco sign Osborne?' :D

It's a bit strange bringing Asbjørn in for the two races that suit him the least. At least the TDU had Willunga for him.

I watched all stages, but I was near suicide with the commentary on UK Eurosport Adam Blyth seemed to be sick or asleep and the other bloke very nearly drove me to suicide with his pointless drivel. I know commentary is a thankless task, but of you clearly cannot to do it, just don't. I switched on the women's coverage from the Balearic Islands with Dani Christmas and Joanne Rowsell. What a difference! Professional, informative, and engaging; they restored my faith in a minute.

I agree. The way Jayco rode the TDU they were climber type short. Anyway, he would have got good training in Australia.

Think you need to compare apples with apples. The TDU was a full coverage of 4 hours compared to 90 minutes of the Balearic islands. And of course for the TDU they were commentating in the early hours after midnight, while in the balearic Islands commentary was in the afternoon.

You didn't find it informative that you can apparently handle stinging nettles without getting burned if you just avoid touching the edges??

I'm sure there must some who have actually committed suicide listening to Jez Cox. Always the ambient option for me now.

Sorry, that reasoning is simply excusing poor performance. When I ran championship's plural (Motorsport, not cycling) across Europe and the wider world, the time of day or duration of the event was never an excuse for subpar performance. Commentators present themselves as professionals in the job they wish to be paid to do. And are, in return, well-paid to do the job. If they cannot perform the task they are presented with, they should stop saying they can do it. I would not have spent my rights and owner's money on someone who does not provide a first-class performance. The sponsors and rights owners want value for the money they spend. And the fans have a right to a decent commentary.

Sorry, but you are comparing apples with oranges. I'm not a big fan of Jez Cox or Adam Blythe but their coverage was solid, without being spectacular. You can continue to live in fantasy land if you compare a 90 minute coverage against a 240 minute coverage If you feel the cox/Blythe coverage was poor that is fine BUT your criticism justified or not loses creedence when you compare it to the one day women's race with 90 minutes of coverage.

I gave very sound reasons for my opinion it is a shame we shall have to disagree.

Plapp out of cadel's race after having surgery on his wrist. There had been rumours since early January about him suffering from a broken wrist. The original injury stems back from his crash in the 2024 TDU which was exacerbated by a training crash in late December. Though watching him race you would never think he had a problem with his wrist. I wonder if he will be OK for the UAE Tour which is supposed to be his next race.
