How do I make my hyperlinks look cool?

Please help the technically challenged and please excuse me if this has been answered elsewhere. Couldn't find it in the FAQ's. How do I imbed a hyperlink in text. All I know is the cut n' paste link like this http://forum.cyclingnews.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=11.

But I've seen many people just write purple text that links the site.

Just type:

(url=whatevertheURLofthepageyouarelinkingtois)The text you want the link to appear as(/url)

But replace the ( ) brackets with [ ] brackets.

So for example:

(url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/cycling/8556237.stm)BBC report about stage one of Paris-Nice(/url)

But with square brackets as mentioned above:

BBC report about stage one of Paris-Nice
