The one thing this will do is settle the debates on the forums where Scarponi is ranked against climbers like Gesink, VDB2, Samu etc.

Personally I dont know, 100 kms of TT. I guess its a shame he goes though seeing he would be a great favourite for the Giro.

That's easy

Scarponi > Gesink, VDB2

As for his time trial, it's around Andy Schleck's level really, so it will be hard to get a podium.

Strongly doubt Scarponi would make the podium but I could see him really animating the Tour in a similar way to Voeckler last year. Especially if he gets full support from Cunego, Lloyd etc.

From a sporting point of view I'd love him to ride, he is someone who could make the race much more entertaining to watch.

Scarponi to top 5. I rate him quite highly as a climber and he may be given a bit of leeway once the big mountains come considering he will be behind on gc due to the large amount of tt km's.

He's definitely one of the best climbers around today. Only Contador, Schlecks, Evans, and Sanchez (Menchov?) are better than him. But his TT'ing blows and in this Tour that means you probably won't be able to podium. I can see him top 5 if he fully commits.

I'd prefer to see him ride the Giro because he can actually win it.

Nah... He'd top 10 Le Tour but why aim for a Top 10 in Le Tour if you can actually win Il Giro?

He wont do anything in Le Tour 2012... The TT is going to kill his chances inmediatly...

At least in the Tour the bigger pack of contenders will mean that he should be able to resist the urge to do something stupid, a la Etna.

What I like about that move is that He showed BALLS... He thought "Fack it... I'm going with Alberto" ;)

I really like Michele ... and I really, really hope he does the Giro first. Happy for him to win Il Giro and then have a go at KOM or a few stages at Le Tour.

I would hate for him to put all his eggs in the Tour basket to get 5th or 6th

it's just some idea,it won't happen.michele will do il giro for sure and maybe next year go to le tour.it's all planned and the thing started from an interview where michele joked in his style answering at the question "how will you do at il giro" or something with "how do you know i will do il giro?":p
michele has the biggest chance ever to win it,no doubt that in may he will be in italy.cunego will do le tour

I'd love to see Scarponi in the TdF, but I would love every TdF top10 guy riding the Giro much more :)

Scarponi should ride the Giro as he has a really big shot at winning it and I'm pretty sure he will ride the Giro as well.

If he rides only the tdf he will.

Honestly. If that makes him the biggest idiot ever then riders like Gesink, VDB2, Nibali, Sanchez etc are idiots as well.

edit: Actually I think they are silly for not trying to win the Vuelta or Giro first. Idiots?.. that's a bit harsh :D

scarponi would be worse 'cause he's italian. Winning the giro would be a glory equal than winning the tdf for him
