That was Roma Maxima (the old Giro del Lazio), against Valverde, right?This is the kind of attitude that I hate from GT GC contenders and that the UCI's points system sadly somewhat rewards.
It takes a special talent for conservatism to apply that kind of technique to one-day racing though.
Maybe he was putting in a tribute to Domenico Pozzovivo though, since he had the epic "finish 7th in a two-up sprint".
