Il Lombardia 2024, one day monument, October 12, farewell to Domenico Pozzovivo

He’s an emotional guy—I don’t think that means he’ was “broken.” I was thinking how significant it would be for him even getting 2nd when the accident here could easily have ended his career.
He was disappointed to finish 2nd but he looked good and was very strong as well. He could coast when it was clear he wasnt gonna gain back and went auto-pilot in the end. It was a good way to end the season for him as well with his first podium here.

This is my point, its hardcore cycling fans who have started to stop watching, this will hurt the sport next year.
We'll see, but for now there is this horde, this very loud minority that seems to find this exciting. Either way, I am going to make it very easy for myself: if he is riding, I ain't watching.

Giro del Veneto next week, proper ciclismo.

Its staggering that at the end of what is for me the best season ever in road cycling, Pogačar is still able to do what is quite possibly his best performance ever in a one-day race. Beating Remco by more than 3 minutes and everyone else by more than 4:30 just shows how much stronger he is at the moment which must be really demoralising for his rivals

Remco still doing a good race and although he was very far from Pogačar's level he gets another monument podium in a race where his career almost came to an end four years ago. He should be really proud of what he achieved during this season.

Ciccone finishes the season on a high note after some bad luck during his season with his first monument podium. Good to see Van Eetvelt back with a good performance after him getting sick during the Vuelta and shoutout to the teams that made the race harder by attacking on the first climbs and to Christen, Majka and Sivakov which during different moments of the race did a great job to hekp their team leader get his 25th win of the season.

Wishing all the best to Cataldo and Pozzovivo!

Just managed to watch the replay. The attack was pretty much expected from Pog, but at least we had some good racing for the podium. Truly a remarkable season from Pogacar, no words.

It’s not exciting but it’s compulsive watching. The best cyclist of all time. I really hope he goes outside his comfort zone next year. Ride Roubaix. He could win it, and I’d love to watch.
Its history and its just amazing to witness indeed. To be able to witness the best cyclist of all time right infront of our eyes absolutely legendary stuff.
Loved Remco comments after aswell and I agree. What an era.

One thing that IMO should be taken into account is that the parcours was better than previous years to maximize gaps.

Remco can’t expect to compete with UAE whilst riding for Soudal. They are just not strong enough in a climbers race. Visma or Ineos, maybe, but not Soudal. If he wants to compete with Pogačar he needs more support.
There is not a singular rider on INEOS this year to be found that performed above average to their relative level and/or booked significant, visible progression. Well, maybe one, but that list starts and ends with Narvaez.

You could argue there is more visibility of regression amongst some of their riders. Not to mention the turmoil that is management. Going there would be suicide. That team is beyond cooked.

I gotta say, lots and lots of bad said about course make up for gravel worlds, especially lack of technical, that said, I am being serious, I think Pogacar had a shot at winning that race had he showed up.. Today was real punctuation on his season, he got out of the saddle, nothing explosive, nobody answered, Remco casually observed him rolling away. Pogacar is like a Marvel movie superhero, if you try to get his wheel you just blow up!! End of race camera shots had Pog quietly crushing a massive gear, and when they cut to Remco and Giconne both guys pushing huge gear but their bodies were moving around way more, you could see the effort. Pogacar just looks like he cooling down on a trainer, absolutely effortless
