It's easy to forget Pogacar won a monument by a different tacitc than just powering away from everyone 50k from the finish, not too long ago. That was actually a really nice tactical win.
It's pretty obvious he also just was the best rider in the race. Everyone was gassed on the top of Ganda with 30km left to race. G2 syndrome wasn't even that bad and he just held 50s the entire way and didn't really lose time up and down the final hill either.

So the race is almost upon us! There are so many questions.

Will Teddy up the stakes and attack on Valpiana?
Will Remco successfully chase down Pogi? (thanks to marginal gains: additional kilos on descents)
Will Matteo get too close to the sun again?
Will Mas perform a long-range attack on San Fermo Della Battaglia?
Will Fausto finally win his home race? (only to find out that Pogi arrived half an hour earlier)

Also, due to risks of flooding in Como the finish line will be moved from Lungo Lario Trento to viale Felice Cavallotti

Sure, he was the strongest, but it was at a level where a win was never guaranteed. If he had arrived in the valley in a big group it would have been very hard to convince the rest to collaborate on the flat so he could make another attack on the final hill. I'd much rather see that kind of race again than another utterly dominant solo

Pogacar will attack with 47km to go, Van Eetvelt will be the only to follow to then blow up a km later, so 46km solo.

Pidcock was in good shape and looking forward to Lombardia but he was deselected with the turbulent end of his season. Probably with the transfer rumours. Don’t know why teams do this when riders are still under contract.

Bagioli is sick, also DNS.

Shows that Emilia was a really hard race and the bad/cold weather may have set down the immune system for many riders. Been bad weather all week with riders making their preparations and a few of them was in Tre Valli as well.

Add end of the season fatigue both physically/mentally.

You can understand a few riders opting not to ride it or cant make the starting line.
