Short chat with Corbin Strong. It's been exciting watch him progress the past couple of years. I really thought he was gonna win in Quebec until he got De Lie-ed.
The incoming transfers of Vernon and Ackers shouldn't hurt him too much as he ain't a pure sprinter (although he contested them at the TdF and did okay with very little help).
First races for him next year - TDU and CEGORR.
Few months ago, here on CN, there was an article about a future „peace race“, created by Israel and its friendly states of UAE and Bahrain.
Their three teams ISN, UAE and BHV of course would have taken part in.
Now, with this terrible news, the aftermath of the Hamas attacks, I strongly believe the first edition of this race will be delayed for some time.
Very, very sad. I was so happy about the creation of diplomatic connections between UAE and Israel, and Bahrain and Israel, and the peaceful situation in the area, before October 7th.
Now, so much has been destroyed, these last weeks.
Sports has the power to unite the nations. I however sadly almost forgot there are still people, full of hatred, in this world.

Well, given that the first edition was scheduled for October 2024 and the 2024 calendar has been out for a month now and doesn't contain an entry for the Peace Race ... you know, I think you might actually be on to something. Albeit four weeks late with the news...
Israel has a big revenue stream from tourism and they have some great road and mountain biking. I personally think that using cycling as a connection to tourism is always brilliant. Everywhere you look helicopter photography and carefully produced media spots for the race are a win for everyone. Some of the shots of beautiful mountains of Italy, France and Spain seen while watching TV or YouTube videos of a race are probably enough to get tens of thousands to book a vacation on natural beauty alone. Turkey and now Southland tours, Tour Down Under and worlds are a double win..fantastic showcase of the race and the place it's being held.
I really think that there is a strange, seemingly impossible connection between events being held in Israel, Israeli sponsored teams and what many in the sports world are considering the evil empire of the Gulf states..recent billions into F1, pro golf, cricket, football and everything in between are often referred to as sports washing. I would see 2024 as way to soon to hold an event in Israel and just being real, women's racing may not be anything in Western secular countries but the increase in women, racers and racing calendar are not possible everywhere.
Going by this podcast Guy Sagiv gives the impression that he'll still be with the main team next year. He doesn't implicitly state it, but he talks about not knowing his calendar yet, would like to ride the Olympics etc.
So Sagiv, Einhorn and Goldstein for the last three spots? Nothing for Berwick? and will Sheehan get the same deal as Van Tricht and ride with the devo in '24 and the main team in '25?
As an aside he talks about how lucky he and his other half Omer Shapira were last month, they could very easily have been out on a early morning training ride very close to the Gaza border and only changed plans the day before.

Sheehan deserves better than a devo squad slot next season with the year he's had.
Well he deservedly got it. Still, three Israelis will not go into two roster spots and barring something unexpected one of them will now have to say adios.
Sagiv? A pure domestique and if not for that above podcast, I'd have said the most likely to be omitted.
Einhorn? National champ and has got the biggest Israeli wins. The sprinter position in the team is rather overfilled again though and Kogut looks a better prospect.
Goldstein? Imo the most talented of the three and a proper "racer", but he had a really poor year until a decent result in the Euros. Going by this instagram post some sort of change for him wouldn't have been too unexpected, but the result he got in the Netherlands seems to have given him a fresh boost.
I guess we'll see soon.

Some other news is that Rusty Bucket confirms that the Giro will be his main target for the year and completing the set of GT stage wins. Not a lot of the stages scream Woods imo with maybe 16 or 17 looking the best bet, but if it's anything like this year with break after break winning, then no doubt other opportunities will present themselves.

Vanmarcke's unfortunate retirement does leave the cobbles team a bit thin. The timing of it didn't leave the team much scope to make alternate arrangements. Stewart and Hofstetter can do their thing in the easier semi-classics, but personally I'd be looking to Teuns to step up and be the leader in a few more cobbled races - hopefully his personal issues are behind him.

Goldstein is better than Sagiv. Other than that, Einhorn is more valuable than him given he can score points,placings and take a few wins on lesser races. The new riders coming from the devo look fair enough to take Omer's spot.
IMHO they should have kept Reynders and let Sagiv go as well.

I'd be more leaning towards something like keeping Sagiv and Goldstein and getting rid of Froome, but two more years to go.....

Elverson had already been doing some DS work for the team this year and now he's in charge of the devo squad. The third team manager in three years. Gord Fraser in '22 and Jens Blatter in '23. Not the greatest continuity, but hopefully he can persuade some British talent to sign up (Blackmore?) in the same style as Ruben Plaza with the Spanish riders they've brought in.

Speaking of the devo team, I reckon Pier-Andre Cote (HPH) is at the ongoing IPT training camp and since there is no more room in the main team, is he going to be a ringer with the devo squad for a year? If he has a great year that could transition into a move up to the main team ofc, but even if it doesn't, this could at least keep his career going at a decent level and allow him and his agent to keep looking for something better in 2025.
In regards to Juan Diego Quintero, he just posted a small statement on IG.
In 2024 he will ride for Team Sistecredito. However he will receive continued support and guidance from Israel – Premier Tech and thanked them for allowing him to attend their training camp this past week.
Cote said days ago he had find a team for 2024, so you're probably right. He is too good for a devo squad honestly, hopefully he'll join the main team next year.
Moritz Kretschy will ride with the Academy Team in 2024? I saw him listed there on Pro Cycling Stats.
Anyway, to follow up on Juan Diego Quintero, I hope IPT signs him onto the academy for 2025. However, let's see how his second year in the junior category plays out first. Quintero is in with the opportunity to become only the second rider in Colombian history to achieve winning back-to-back titles of Vuelta del Porvenir, possibly following in the footsteps of R. Uran who won two consecutive titles back in 2004 and 2005. It won't be easy, though.
Quintero is the first rider from the region (Valle de Cauca) to win the Vuelta del Porvenir in its almost 40-year history. The region hasn't been represented at the highest level since Jarlinson Pantano, who was sidelined 4-years for his positive analytical (EPO) test back in 2019.
They do have history, though. William Palacio (from Cartago) was a class talent in the late 1980s. He won Vuelta de la Juventud in 1985 - finished 3rd on GC at Clásico RCN and 12th (GC) at the Vuelta España in 1988.
The 2024 junior squad of Sistecrédito will be very, very strong as always. Besides Quintero, they will also have Jerónimo Calderón (born 2007) and winner of Vuelta del Futuro this year on their roster.

Radsport said he was signing for them, but there's been nothing official and PCS is usually very pedantic about waiting for confirmation so maybe they've had news from elsewhere.

Twenty is a lot. I always thought the limit was 16+3 specialists, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway there are four non-espoirs included - Cote, Van Tricht (confirmed to be joining the main team in 2025), Tene and Watts. No doubt this quartet will be used a lot to reinforce the sprint trains and classics squad of the main team (areas in which they are lacking a bit of depth) through the year.
The past two seasons have seen three riders promoted each time from the devo squad, so who will it be this time? Van Tricht as I say is already assured of a spot, Tene I'd say has a very good shout as maybe a leadout for Kogut or Einhorn (but able to take his own chance on tougher/classic days) and the third spot is much more up in the air. Lima and Marti did well for E1 riders in 2023, Blackmore had some impressive results for someone who hasn't ridden many road races, Cote of course could bring a lot of experience and Kretschy could be in the mix too - the team needs someone who can climb and TT.

I like the Kretschy and Blackmore signings a lot. It will also be interesting to see if Jesse Maris, lives up to the previous hype this season.
I am also very, very intrigued to follow how Dylan Bibic (track-beast) fares on the road. I see so much potential in him – did you see how he dusted Gaviria at the Pan-American (Eliminations???).
Bibic certainly has talent. I'm presuming he'll put track on the back backer for a year or two at least after the Olympics and see how he gets on road-wise. However there's no guarantee he'll be able to transfer his talents over to a comparable level. Mattern has been doing okay on the track as well.
Maris did not badly for an E1 I thought. Some good days (Fleche Ardennaise especially) and some less so (Il Piccolo Lombardia - made it into a strong selection, but looked weak on the descents/flat afterwards). Hopefully a few more race days in 2024 and some consistency.
