This young guy is getting too good to not have his dedicated thread in my opinion. So here goes.
Name: Jørgen Nordhagen
DOB: January 10th 2005
Place of birth: Tranby, Norway
Weight; 59kg Height: 1.77 m
This youngster was still splitting his time between cycling and cross country skiing when he was recruited into the Visma- Lease a Bike system.
Already as a junior (while still splitting his time as a skier) he showed promise both in the time trial and especially as a climber, winning for example Eroica Juniores ahead of the year younger Paul Seixas at 3rd. He ended his skiing career in February 2024 by becoming Junior World Champion of the 20km mass start at the Junior World Championships in Planica Slovenia.
Soon after he made his senior cycling debut for Team Visma-Lease a Bike Development team. He recorded 5 victories at the U-23 and *.2 level in his first year and move straight into the WT Visma team in his second year.
In his first WT season he still rode half the year at U-23 level finishing 4th in Giro Next Gen and winning a stage and finishing 3rd in Tour de l'Avenir. At World Tour level he has so far finished 13th in Tour de Romandie, 5th in Tour of Gungxi, 8th in UAE Tour and most recently 2nd in O Gran Camino.
Coming through at a time when young talents seem to be a dime a dozen it can be hard to stand out but there are few of his cohorts that seem to thrive as much in the really high and steep mountains as much as Nordhagen. He has already been compared both in ability and riding style to Vismas danish climbing king Jonas Vingegaard. He has often shared rooms with the danish climber and any rider should be envious of having such a prominent mentor in their team.
