Jack LaLanne 1914-2011

Not sure kids today know much about Jack LaLanne, but what a life he lived. He changed the world in ways a lot of people don't realize. LA Times article here.

I had the chance to meet him once at a fitness fair. I was almost 30, he was over 70. I had been a bike racer, XC skier, set the VO2 Max record at a local clinic for that year, etc. When I shook his hand I couldn't believe how solid he was. It was like shaking hands with a fire hydrant. He was a bit of a huckster and pitchman for his stuff, but in person he was very genuine to the cause of health and fitness. It was his life.

Rest in peace Jack.

Never met him but wow, what a pioneer. Dominated morning television when i was a kid, My mother would exercise right along with him and got me to do it too. Genuine is the word that springs to mind. He truly wanted to help people. He tried to prevent the predicament the US finds itself in now.Sedentary, poor diet etc. Received far too little credit for his tireless efforts to improve peoples lives. The whole fitness club industry should be erecting a huge monument in his honor.

Saw him once and thought he was short. I'm short so I know what I'm talking about but he was built like the proverbial brick commode. Lived a clean and entertaining life and we'd all be lucky to do the same. RIP
