Jempy Monseré - 40 years after (TV Program next Monday)
Hello,
Next Monday, the Dutch-speaking channel Canvas is broadcasting again its report on Jean-Pierre Monseré, for the 40th anniversary of his death. I missed it two years ago when they first showed it.
Jempi's death in a village race in Retie, on March 15, with the Rainbow Jersey on was probably one of cycling history's biggest tragedies. And for the family, tragedy was not over since Jempi's only kid Giovanni was killed at age 6, five years later, in much the same way on the little bike that was offered to him by Freddy Maertens.
I've bought the biography by Mark Van Hamme: Jean-Pierre Monseré voor altijd 22 (Forever 22). I'm yet to read it but it's very well done.
