Johan Bruyneel defends his presence at Wiggins' UCI Hour Rec

So why would some of the cycling press get their panties all in a knot because Johan Bruyneel DARED show himself in public and attend the one hour event?
What is he supposed to do? Remain a shut-in for the rest of his life?
So he got nailed with doping-related offences. Given the times they were competing-in, he and Armstrong were just doing what all of the other contenders were doing and had been doing for decades - cheating. They did what they had to do to be competitive and they beat them all at their own game.
Am I glad that era is over? Yes. Do I hate them all for it and think they should be banished from all cycling functions?- hell no!
He has been punished, so the Press and other old gossiping ladies should shut the hell up and move on.

One post ever, and it´s to defend JB? Nothing else to say about cycling?
So you are JB himself?
Whatever, how about that:
"Johan Bruyneel has been handed a 10 year ban in sport..."
So what you don´t understand about that? You have further infos, may something like that the ban does not count for UCI events in which he meets his old UCI buddy Fat McQuaid?

I guess you won´t come back here. You had your one post you wanted. But I still hope you read it before going back to the hole you came from...

Well, "10 year ban from sport" is a bit vague, but I'm pretty sure if you look at the detail it will be that he's banned from taking part in sport in a managerial capacity or as an athlete and not that he's banned from being a spectator.

... certainly true. But I guess having all laughs with (ex-)dopers and the corrupt Ex-UCI boss in the inner-ring doesn´t look good for the new era. I guess there were ways to prevent JB from being inside the ring. He certainly wasn´t just a spectator like the ones in the stands. So the point should be clear to the op-poster.
And ofc it doesn´t look good to the man calling his critics wankers. I guess many see him as one. At least since Sunday.

What's the problem with that exactly?

What about Riis and Indurain to just name 2?

Re: Johan Bruyneel defends his presence at Wiggins' UCI Hour

cheeky from him but a fair point, although him and Pat looked very friendly, both stains on sport, and McQuaids sons all seem to make there money from cycling to unaffected by there close ties.

I have no problem with current or former team managers like Bruyneel or Brailsford attending such events.

Hehe. I see what you did there.

Pretty sure this thread should either be moved to the clinic or nuked now.

As for him being there, of course he can but it's ridiculous that he thought it was either a good idea or to think no-one there knew he would be turning up and didn't tell him not to bother. He should have been turned away, all venues reserve the right to do that and it should have been used.

Well, no it's not my first post. I have posted many times before under the same name (I think) I moved, my email changed and I couldn't remember my log-in! LOL :)
So, you're wrong about your conspiracy theories...and....
apparently more than a few agree that it is not the end of the world if JB shows-up at cycling events.
Also, if cycling authorities and event planners shmooze with him and allow him to attend, they also believe what I said in my original post. Bruyneel was just doing what everybody was doing during those times.
So YOU can get YOUR panties out of a knot and live with it too!

If he wasn't causing a scene or violating the terms of his ban then legally once he purchased the ticket there was very little that the velodrome could do. I doubt the ticketing websites software was setup with this in mind.

He was in the VIP area so I'm pretty sure someone looked at who bought those tickets. If fact, you can guarantee every name on that list will have been looked at to see if any celebrities were there that they could milk. All venues reserve the right to remove or refuse entry, this should have been done. Just because he is allowed to attend does not mean they have to let him. And what could he have done? He'd kick up a fuss and people would just say tough crap, GTFO, you're not welcome.

Yes, and while you are at it lets ban all the athletes who were ever banned for doping, same with DS's, etc.
How are they better than Bruyneel?

Tough call either way. Tossing him would be a little harsh. But it doesn't put Wiggo in the best company either having him there when he or his team could've avoided it.

Genuinely open to opinions on this one. Also more than a little more interested in seeing how those opinions manage to straddle the clinic line.

Bruyneel is currently banned.

I don't believe I mentioned anyone else, I also don't discuss doping in the PRR as it is not allowed and I'm not getting into a long draw out discussion that has been gone over a multitude of times as to why the actions of certain people go beyond just cheating to win and why everything isn't just black and white. All I'll say is I don't have much of a problem with your suggestion and I'll happily discuss it further if the thread is moved.

Where exactly is the conspiracy theory? I don´t see one. And, imagine, I know what I wrote. So please enlighten me what you read into my post what isn´t there. That you have no problems with frauds is another point...
Anyway, again for you: There would have been ways to prevent JB to be in the inner-ring. And if I saw it correctly, he even got a "VIP" pass to be inside with all the old buddies that know a thing or two about cheating... Well, basically Wigans loves them all (as he expressed himself). What a, to use his words, wanker.

I think moving the thread is an excellent idea. I also think the subject of what is and isn't appropriate behavior for someone currently serving a ban (be it Bruyneel, HWMNBN, or whoever) is a healthy subject to be explored.

In the correct forum.

Can anyone imagine another sport where a principal actor like a team coach, who had been banned for 10 years and who was outed as a cheating mastermind behind one of the (if not "the") worst scandals in the sport, was allowed to chum it up with a star "player" and be treated like a VIP?

I cannot.

This sport is shamelessly corrupt.

If someone gets 'days' in horse racing for any offense, not matter how minor like a 3 day ban, they are not permitted on the grounds of any track, period. Certainly not as a spectator, they would be ushered out.
