2 - Incredible first season at professional level. 12th in the Vuelta, 13th in the WC. Animator of many races

3 - rides for a team outside the BioPassport (correct?)

4 - trains in Spain.

5 - By his own admission has been a major target for anti doping authorities over the winter.

6 - 2010 form is not even close to last year. No notable results, barely visible.

I am wondering if there might be a connection between 5 and 6

I know there is alot'a' vitriol for Mr Testeronny, but why is he singled out in the peloton. Seems a few like Dr Dave Bruylandts, the worst one can say is they are none too subtle, and lack of political nous to see the harbinger.

I just looked at an article from March 2009, and Vacansoleil was one of the 36 teams paid up for the Biological Passport for last year. They're trying to get an additional title sponsor so they have the cash to hire a name GC contender so they'll be invited to more races next year. There's no way that plan works, or they could ride in a grand tour, without being a part. They'd have name riders wanting to ride for them just to avoid the passport.

This year Hoogerland seems to be getting similar placings in similar races to that of 2007-8. Only now it savs "Vacansoleil" after his name, not "Van Vliet".

He's gone from GC top 10 contender and Worlds outsider, with big hopes for Amstel and L-B-L to the old level of mid pack in Belgian semi classics....

This year Hoogerland seems to be getting similar placings in similar races to that of 2007-8. Only now it savs "Vacansoleil" after his name, not "Van Vliet".

You can add 2009 to that list. His results last year certainly weren't more impressive than this years until the Vuelta.

I thought he was at least as good in the cobbled classics this year as he was last year - he certainly wasn't invisible in Tour of Flanders - probably in the top dozen strongest riders on the day

How unsurprisingly coincidental.

Johny Testosterone's actually tested positive once when he was a junior. But of course he was then tested in Switzerland, and the testers were sufficiently convinced his high levels were natural.

What's that you say? Riccò also managed to convince the lab in Switzerland that his absurdly high HcT was natural when he was being prevented from turning pro with Panaria because of abnormal blood values?

Surely the tests can be trusted. It's not like Riccò's turned out to be a doper or anything.
