Because the UCI keeps everything hidden like late payments of rider's salaries and non pa

This is exactly what people should be worried about and the absolute dictation of the schedule.. If Arab backing is at 3 teams the UCI won't say so but they would become a pseudo Arab agency.. UCI and others having little to say about recent rider salary issues came to light.
My big question will be if Cervelo has the horsepower to stay as bike sponsor or Specialized just out spends them for the exposure.. Really shows how far Trek has fallen ..another weird twist is what a possible @2 million crank set recall will do to Shimano as a company and sponsorship money. I also own Shimano fishing equipment which I have found outstanding over years of use..
"This autumn, Richard Plugge will come up with a plan for reforming cycling. That plan will be the result of a long thought exercise that he has made with, among others, Bessel Kok, the Dutch chairman of the cycling team Soudal Quick-Step. The intention is for professional teams to become less dependent on sponsors. That the rat race in the search for sponsors must be stopped."

Don't want to say this to be flip but it's not a lot of money for even the top tier sponsorship @10-20 million dollars is not a ton of loot for Royal family members that spend that much on ski and summer homes. Surely contracts by Messi, Reynaldo and many athletes show the obscurity of bike racing, recent tennis and golf prize money payments for a single event dorf the yearly budget for many squads. The TV revenue model in cycling is broken, can't be followed on the Internet or TV for casual fan or person faintly interested. AOC and UCI holding the sport back w 1940s marketing. If you made football, cricket, or basketball this hard to watch and follow a team the sports games would be dead. I can easily follow European football ( soccer) in the US or Mexico w a couple of payments to easy to find subscription services.. Being nowhere near Europe, Australia I can find out what a famous rugby or footballer had for breakfast or what car they drove to what restaurant after practice or a match. This whole thing about bike racing being an acquired taste is dumb. AOC and UCI should make it easier to follow along.. Great example is this twilight tours for Sagan and Cavendish..NFL and NBA are trying to grow fan base in other countries.. have games in Europe or Mexico and cycling is struggling with getting a bus repainted to say Quickstep or whatever some oil sheik decides the team will be called. Total Energies and Astana are seen as stable? With oil near $100 a barrel and mining and minerals at all time high demands worldwide cycling maybe is just lucky.. Makes me angry at how backwater everything is because of old, outdated business model and infrastructure..

This has "we're still aiming to win races this season so don't get distracted" vibes.

Honestly the moment this totally outlandish, crazy merger wasn't immediately rebuked with laughter & derision, is probably the moment we realized it could be happening.

If the alternative is the current international football setup, then I want no part of it. I love the throwback parts of cycling, like the fact that it's the only sport still contested on public roads (except for distance running etc but that doesn't count)

do you know how difficult it used to be to follow bike races even a decade ago, let alone 20-30 years back ? the only race that even appeared on tv was TdF, and it was highlights, if you wanted to follow the womens races even as recently as 2012 you had to hope a team employed someone who understood social media, and could tweet stuff about the race, or you read about it a week later if someone bothered to write it up.

this is a golden age of access compared to what it was, I can watch races on my phone, I can follow live coverage online, riders are posting what they had for breakfast online, some are even making jokey ASMR videos now.

you think cycling can pull in the kinds of viewing figures that football can ? that FIFA claim half the population of the world watch its world cup.

most of footballs finances are just some ridiculous ponzi scheme that only supports itself continuing, because if it failed it would bring the whole damn sport down and theres too much invested to let it fail, so they just keep extending the money pit.

cycling doesnt need to copy that kind of setup. 10-20million is a lot of money for alot of sports.

This is a phenomenal point. Unless you grew up in Europe, the thought of watching 100 plus races a decade ago was insane. Now you guys criticize for me not watching the Tour of the Basque Country. That's how far we've come in terms of access in this sport. If you don't watch the Basque race in March or April, you're not a fan, lol.

Has Jumbo told TJV that they are going to withdraw their financial obligations for 2024?

if Plugge finds a sponsor for 2024 they'd gladly get out

ps. I see many people talk of Plugge wanting the merger to get Remco, and about what Remco would do in the merged team.
I think Remco will not stay there. he is contracted with Soudal, their WT license will fold and he'll leave. no way Specialized and Remco will stay with Plugge
