Kids' bike shorts?

Does anyone know of a company that makes padded children's bike shorts in small sizes (4 year old). All the kids "bike shorts" I'm finding via usual suppliers and internet searches are simply stretchy shorts with no padding.

Before anyone calls child services for abuse (century rides with 4 year old?), this is just for riding on bike path to an icecream/juice stand...but it is 5 miles.

Thanks.

Hmm. I'm not sure this is exactly helpful - but here goes. No, I don't know of anybody making kid's bike shorts with chamois (or whatever you want to call the padding).

However, my experience is that you don't need this. When my son was young we used to ride a fair amount. Altho, he got more into the bmx scene than into road riding. But the point is he never needed or desired cycling shorts. Regular underwear and shorts were fine for him. He didn't want more, he never had chafing, and wouldn't wear lycra shorts even when he had them available. And he wasn't a "tough" type - there just wasn't a need.

I'd give the 5 mile ride without special shorts, and see if the kid has any chafing issues.

JOIN A CLUB people!!

I don't know how you guys do it without a club/bike shop sponsorship....Too expensive.

Anyway...Clubs buy race cut kits...so the XS is really small, and fits kids...My little one started riding at 8 and she fit in them really well.

The ones we get are the sugoi kits, whatever race cut they make. They are made for race freaks and are really small.

Try body torqu in Geelong Google it for web site

They can make some up for you if need be. But any of the Bike clothing manufacturers will do same.

what kind of mileage is a 4 yo putting in that he or she needs a chamois?

5 miles each way = 10. Trail-a-bike speeds that's 45 min.

Not sure if you've had a little girl, but things are different down there. Wife (ex racer) said get bike shorts. I don't ask questions.

I tend to agree. 5 miles, a long break and then another 5. I would just avoid anything cotton, especially for a girl.

Glad you found them at LG. I don't think it's going to change all that much With proper precautions, I don't think you really need them. BUT, I am married, there's a saying, if Mama ain't, then ain't nobody happy. There's another saying: Happy Wife, Happy Life.

Make your wife happy. The chamois shorts is a small issue.

Kids Bike Shorts

I got a pair of nice bike shorts with the pad for my grandson from Spindaroos.com. Well made and the pad is of nice quality. They must be pretty comfortable because he wears them for hours when we ride to the park to play on the Jungle Jim.

Boy or girl - I think it MOST important to listen to the child first, BUT bobs *** is absolutely right - if it makes Mama unhappy, she comes first. I won't argue with that.

My husband would ride our daughter on a trail-a-bike to Preschool and Kindergarten about once a week. It was a 6 mile ride for her in just her school clothes. No complaints from her. Of course, I don't know how much free wheeling she was doing.

She is now 9 and they ride dirt trails in the local hills...with a bigger trail-a-bike...about the same distance, but much more varied elevation. She usually just wears jeans.
