even if he does recover in time, it doen't look like he will be in great condition for the classics. shame...

Ya, the best they can hope is perhaps that he gets back fast enough so that he can at least play domestique in the classics. Even on dodgy form he can probably be quite useful in the middle of each race.

It seems like there is always 1 or 2 headliners that miss the classics. Its a shame to miss the races you excel in.

Shame for matti.

He was naive to think he could avoid the rabo curse tho

Oh boy, did I get angry yesterday? Maybe I overreacted, but it still annoys me VEREY much

As pistolero said, the worlds is still in play, and that's not bad, but it's not in any way comparable with the cobbled classics.

I'm left with frustration, but I guess it's part of the game.

Hope he gets it right, we lost Haussler from the classics this year to a knee :(

Hope he is back on track for next year. He must be a massive talent, who else is capable of winning at vuelta stage after a night with heavy drinking?

Breschel now says that since Cancellara left it would have been better for him to stay with Saxo Bank. I don't see what his thinking is there. Rabobank has a much stronger cobbles team that Saxo Bank has so to me it's clear that moving to Rabo is a much better situation.

Ah, they're starting off on the right footing, I see. Maybe there's still a possibility to terminate his contract... Rabo might be willing to cooperate, seeing as they'll be paying a classics leader who can't lead them in the classics.

I laugh so hard in the face of anyone at rabo right now. bresschel will be the next freire, chronically injured and only showing himself in the wc's with a danish shirt.

and everyone could see it coming this year that he would have chronical problems witrh his knee that forced him out of roubaix also. but rabo dumb as f*** again of course

Yes, Rabo have been very unfortunate with Freire on their team

freire is a talent that is incredible but he may have taken out 15% out of his career from what he could've taken. bresschel is far less talented so he will never win anything big at rabo now. maybe 3 2nd places in wc

Oh, in that case, no problem. If Boonen or Gilbert don't win, something's gone wrong... that's it, right?

Or Devolder, Cancellara and Thor Hushovd. Even Flecha can beat him.

It's like saying Jurgen van den Broeck will beat Andy Schleck at the Tour next year.

Breschel is showing some good steady progress. Flecha and Devolder are showing none. If you saw Breschel riding in Dwars door Vlaanderen or Gent-Wevelgem, or even Flanders before his mechanics decided to screw him... it's been a while since Devolder has been riding like that. If he ever has.

What makes you so sure? We consider Matti as the cobbled classic rider first of all. Freire has never been "cobbled" rider of the level that Breschel is now.

Owh boohoo, people drop half way out of Gent-Wevelgem because they just don't care about it and rather be fully prepared for Flanders.

You do know Breschel got his *** kicked by Devolder at the RVV last year right? And I don't even like Devolder and consider his Flanders victories a fluke, but that's how it was(because of the tactics by other teams).

If he was a real super talent à la Boonen and Cancellara he'd have won a major cobbled classic by now. He just isn't of the same level. Will he ever win one? Probably, but not next year even without the injuries. And if he does I'll be highly surprised.

I read it on a the norwegian cycling site syklingensverden.com but it was apparently from an interview on danish TV2.

He apparently said that it would be optimal to ride for Saxo Bank now without Cancellara but that he has to believe in his descision and look forward. He also said that he hopes to one day again be under the wings of Riis, "If they want that then I would certainly consider it".
