Cancellara will be ok, just happily cruising along. Last year he had the misfortune of getting the amarillo in the prologue, now luckily he doesn't.

On 7 February he got dropped in the Qatar TTT. On 16 March he finished 78th in Tirreno. On 4 and 11 April he trashed the opposition in RVV and PR. It's all about focus, and the worlds are a month away still.

To be fair he did win the tour of Oman in that period as well.

But you are right, cancellaras performances are incredibly unconsistent.
When Cancellara rode the RVV i was not expecting much as the Quatar TTT was still fresh in my mind. Also, i remember him saying in Oman that the 20k tt they did there was the hardest in his life, so i did not expect him to raise his performance so much after those dark days in Quatar. But by god he did it. Also he then did poorly in California, missing the top 10 in the itt, before winning the tour tts a few weeks later. Given his poor performance so far in la vuelta, i fully expect to see the mother of all peaks for the World.

He did however test his legs on one or two of the final climbs. He'll probably do that in this Vuelta as well, along with the TT of course.
