Hmm i think i smell spam...

It's a race thread with a startlist and a profile. God forbid you read one of Hitch's previews for a Giro stage...

Anyway. Cav, Greipel, Farrar and about 20 other sub-top sprinters should be fun. Throw Boonen into the mix too depending how Het Volk goes.

Yeah, I hate it when people post start lists and start a race thread.

On a cycling forum!

Unbelievable.

3 threads, all with links to external sites. No info, no work and an invite to join some betting thing.

Like i said - smells like spam.

I like hitch and others race threads... they put work into them.

No info? Full startlists and a profile.
No work? Does it look like that website has had no work put into it?
The betting thing is neither here nor there, if you aren't interested don't play it, but Nico's site is great for startlists and especially race info.

Funnily enough if there's enough interest in these races, then they deserve their own threads.

I believe the express intention of the thread is to get people to go to said betting website... ie he is trying to make money from posting on this forum. That is spam in my book.

CN has start lists... link to that... I have no problem with every race eva having a thread... i dont like advertising made to look like race threads.

1. CN start lists are often incorrect and incomplete, especially for small races.

2. It's not a betting website per se, it's more of a fantasy league, as far as I'm aware there's no money to be made, it's a game. If the mods have a problem with that then I'm sure they'll step in but they haven't so far this season so it seems to be acceptable.

3. I'd best do some work now :p

indeed, post here the profile and the startlist. i don't want to click on your site.the race threads are not what there used to be.i would like the people with some knowledge to do it but it seems they are busy with the race design thread and other stuff :p

+1. Race previews have... a preview of the race in the OP usually. That's just a link, posted for commercial purposes, ie spam. Presumably it's the same deal in the other two threads. If I want a route and startlist and the OP isn't putting them up I'll just use cyclingfever. They're really good.

Ok since some people here didn't like my way of posting I'd like to answer to some of the things that are said here and totally unaccurate.

I started this website at the beggining of the year as a fantasy league and I'm not making any money from it. As you can see there aren't any commercials on it and you don't pay a fee to enter it!

It is a huge amount of work for me (doing it alone) and as a cycling lover I just wanted to share the informations I get from everywhere and especially the startlists since all the sites are not always accurate (and especially cyclingfever IMO which is not the best for that information...)

I don't ask you to sign in in order to see the informations on it but only try to share the startlists, the profiles and everything you need to know before a race.

I've already talked to the forum moderators and they encouraged me to post starlists when I had it. I'm not spamming or whatever and I aknowledge it is a kind of advertising for my website but I don't ask you anything in return

Now seeing what incredible reactions my way of posting threads has made, I will stop doing that.

It is just sad to see how the work (because I insist, it is an amazing amount of work) of a volunteering cycling fan is just being criticized

I think if the URL of the website were different you wouldn't have got the same objections, because it has the word 'bet' in the name people are going to make the assumption it's a for-profit, pop-up riddled site and they'd rather have the information in the thread rather than click on an external site that looks like it could be dangerous. I know plenty of the places to pick up sports streams and the like are riddled with ads for betting sites and pop-ups and spyware, so people are justifiably reluctant to click on something they aren't sure about.

Though I don't bet, and since my horrendous performance in the CQ game last year (banking on the likes of Plaza, Soler and Tondó for points because they are/were favourite riders of mine on my favourite team), I have taken the liberty of having a look round your site, and clearly there's a lot more to your site than just the betting game (which in itself doesn't appear to be money-based unless money is involved if you sign in? I don't know) which has taken a lot of research and work to put together (and of course in order to run such a game you have to have up-to-date information on the races to make it a fair game). Obviously you can't change the URL, and given that your site has not assaulted my eyes with copious ads or given Firefox a case of the shakes with a million pop-ups then why the hell shouldn't you try to get a few hits by posting a link? I just think if it was something a bit more neutral and less loaded than including the word 'bet', especially in a time when the net is drowning under the flow of gambling-related pop-up ads, you'd have received less (sometimes a bit over-the-top) hostility. Just my two cents.

I concur. I have pm'd this fellow before and it seems to be a free game with no adverts that is on his site.. He has a start list and race profiles there too, I don't have a problem with it.. No one else has started a race thread so he is free to do so, although I think his opening post could do with a bit of work to make it look a bit nicer(like other race threads we have here, a picture of the profile and map, maybe past winners and so on), so I think everyone should give the guy a hand and give him some helpful advice for starting race threads. I have seen many times people posting links to start lists on non cycling news sites, one members username is even the name of his website so I think this thread is fine.

Startlist from cyclingnews.com... just to balance it out

anyway as for the race I am going for hutarovich to get the win

Don't worry man, there are a lot of people here that probably appreciate the amount of work you must put into this stuff. I appreciate you clarifying your position, too. Seriously, all that would be needed would be to copy/paste the startlist and route map (which I don't see on your site, but I'm sure you have access to), and I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem. It's just that the tone of your first post is 'come see my site and play the game!' rather than 'here is some info about the race - by the way, feel free to check out my site and play the game!'

It's a small difference, but in my opinion a race thread should be about the race first, whereas your first post reads like self-promotion first. It's fine to self-promote and I'm sure you'd find interested people here, but make sure that people don't think self-promotion is your only goal.

Anyway, thanks for starting the thread.

have to disagree on that one, cyclingfever are the most reliable and accurate site that I know of having looked at a lot. Cycling fever are pretty quick to update theirs if there are injuries etc, and they have riders named based on foreign news sources, etc etc which other sites dont have

If they get it wrong sometimes (which they will) its down to the information given to them. im in the third year of running a site, and for startlists, CF are the only people i recommend

You didnt lose cos of your favourites crashing. Tondo was going well and not far off a profit and Soler cost practically nothing and actually made a profit.

Plaza got injured yes but he didnt cost that much either.

It was favourites of yours who would have needed super seasons to become a profit that failed you. Anton, Pardilla, Niemiec (who was obv going to be a dom), Carrara, Blanco all of whome cost around 500 and Anton 1000.

You could have added Breschel to your injury list, though I assume hes not a favourite;)
