I love the stories about guys competing for the lantern rougue when it got you big appearance fees for post your crits. Didn't one guy actually hide until everyone else had gone past?

Not the Laterne rouge, but I love the story about Giovanni Pinarello starting his company with the money that he got for winning the Maglia nera at the 1951 Giro, he was the last official winner of the Maglia nera, the Giro had his own official version of the Laterne rouge jersey only 1946-1951 but i think that they should bring it back, at least for one year, it would be a nice tribute to Giovanni Pinarello.
