ELB was also trying to overtake Bradbury for 2nd in GC, but I still think she should just have let Kasia ride away.
Was Neve ahead on the split seconds from the ITT? Cos if not, letting Kasia ride away would probably have won Elisa 2nd place anyway. She was 4" behind Bradbury going in, and finishing Demi-ELB-Bradbury-Niewiadoma means Elisa gains 6" and Bradbury 4", but finishing Niewiadoma-Vollering-ELB-Bradbury means Elisa gainst 4" and Bradbury nothing, which draws her level on time to the absolute seconds, so it would have come down to the fractions as ELB is clearly ahead on countback.

If Elisa was behind on the fractions and needed to gain 6" on Bradbury through finish placements, then she was kind of doomed because Canyon could just ask Kasia to sit up and let Bradbury take 4" for third, meaning Elisa had to outsprint Vollering, and she wasn't getting away solo while Canyon had the advantage of numbers either. That's why I suspect she must have been behind on the fractions of seconds, because she'd otherwise have needed to do nothing when Kasia attacked and then ask Canyon to make the call on whether the stage win or 2nd place was more important to them.

I'm not sure what the difference from the ITT was, but it would have been easier for ELB to open up a gap to Bradbury in the final, if Kasia hadn't been in the group.

It would have been alot easier just for Trek Lidl not to mess about on Stage 3 like they did, basically ELB stuck on Demis wheel all stage but did no work to pull the breakway back even though that harmed their overall GC positions, whilst Demi could afford to lose time, and then it wouldn't have been a problem at all.

That's the problem when you try to play 4d chess, instead of reacting to what's happening in front of you

Infact Demi said after this stage she didn't understand why Trek Lidl didn't attack on the first climb, which ultimately let Canyon Sram place their riders optimally in the groups to protect Neves position

I can see why Jayco is undecided whether to renew Zigart's contract. She has too many deficiencies in her skill set to be a GC rider. She is better suited to be a stage hunter.
I would really like to see her somewhere else. I know she wants to stay at Jayco but I think there is a reason the better Australian women’s riders are at other teams.

Yeah, what Longo Borghini did made no sense. Do all that work incorrectly hoping to get the seconds to move from 3rd to 2nd? Also have no clue why Cadzow worked so much in Stage 3. Vollering was isolated in both stages but riders from other teams did work did work for her in both. All for potential minor GC placings that they failed to achieve anyhow.

Jayco's big focus for the last two years has been getting a stronger Australian core into their team, albeit with little success. Leaders receive lots of team and management support, the morale in the team is strong, and they use good quality equipment. Tactically, the team is naive at times, they've got two inexperienced Director Sportif's and the selection of the calendar for the last two years does not suit the abilities of their riders. Anyway, the team has made good progress in 2024 and I see no discernible reason why they can't get good Aussie riders.

I guess she really wants that 8th Fleche...

it makes no sense to me, nothing she's said in their published interviews suggests theres an intense burning competitive fire that needed to be satiated by returning like this . Which maybe some Dutch to English mistranslation, though I dont think she was ever that much a forceful personality, but she's not coming across saying things like she's coming back to still win races, to beat the top talent of today, because she believes shes still got it and can still be the best and all that. Its all well I hope Ill get back to the level I need, Im not interested in winning these races, or doing these races, just want to be riding my bike with my teamies and if its good, thats great, which is like ok, are you sure you want to be doing this ?

and what does it say about the team? they clearly havent been able to persaude any of the top riders from other teams to come join them, whether thats because theyve wasted spent all their cash on just the two riders already, or their setup is clearly never going to favour another rider who wants equal chance to race at the biggest races.

Vdb thinks she can put vollering in her place?
Possibly, that would really expose the atmosphere at the team though as abit toxic. Obviously VdB knows the kind of watts Vollering can do and may well be able to match them, or exceed them, but I don't think Demis ability is purely about power

and thinking back at how VdB won races, she kind of would go on solo efforts like Avv did, that no one else could match the inital acceleration or work together to pull them back. I don't think that's a tactic that works the way the current peloton ride anymore.

Was interesting that Kasia posted on socials welcoming her back, and she doesn't have a contract for next year yet.though you'd think CanyonSram would be crazy not to sign her up again.

Kasia has been rumoured to join SDW, but I don't know whether that was mostly made up, or if VDB's comeback makes it more or less likely.

I haven't seen Demi react to the comeback news, but I've noticed that the team has posted a video on IG about VDB's decision. It includes clips from her time as a DS, but Demi doesn't feature at all. Reusser is shown in it, but I don't know if that tells us anything about her future.

I noted Demi was missing in all their coverage, and hasn't AFAIK covered it herself either. Though I had spotted ELB also joined in the welcome back mood among some of the peloton, whilst also waiting for a new contract.

Versus compared to how Demi has handled Chantal winning Dutch nationals, where she seems just as happy Chantal won. I know we shouldn't take these things at face value, but it's the absence of certain things rather than the promotion of other things that stands out to me

Fwiw I always thought whichever team Demi ended up with Reusser would follow her

Had to look twice, but the Lotto Thüringen Tour has on stage 5 a 31 km ITT. More than the Tour last year and the Tour and Giro this year.
Crazy.

Also not the strongest starting field, with all of the top sprinters missing. With that said it will be a hard fight to win a stage.

That was my feeling, too, but I'm no longer as sure.
I don't think the FDJ rumours have mentioned Reusser at all, and the two of them don't seem to have spent much time together this season either.

they did that block of Spanish races together, but Reusser has either been injured this year or had illness since, and was supposed to be concentrating on the Olympics next, so if they suddenly switch her to the Giro instead, and she misses TdFF then Ill think somethings up :)

Movistar had been a team linked with her I remember reading way back, but how much truth there was in it I dont know, seemed an odd move, but considering there are hardly any rumours circulating about most of the riders out of contract this year it might not be unusual that FDJ havent shown their hand yet. I mean Cecilie is out of contract with them for next year as well. so it feels like there will be a flurry of announcements at some point

As soon as the Vollering/Specialized deal is either confirmed or officially dead, then a lot of announcements will probably follow, from multiple teams.
