I think the leadout is good enough and at least in Guangxi he was in competitive positions for the final, but didn't have the top end speed.
Think the sprint that Pedersen won would have been perfect for De Lie...
He still needs a suitable parcours - He has some similarities with MVDP who found the 2023 TDF route did not suit him - I can see some possibilities at the 2024 Giro, although we need to wait for the TDF and Vuelta route reveal - Anyway, he has the right characteristics to win a GT stage.

Yeah they're kind of framing a few things to make it seems like De Lie is a Greek God and literally decides everything. Obviously he has a lot to say, like every leader in every team. Pretty normal he has his "guys" in the team, but...
- Taminiaux, while being a friend of De Lie, did not come to just help De Lie, just look at the races both are riding. The races they do together are very limited, if there are any honestly. Taminiaux is definitely not at Lotto to be De Lie's leadout, he won't even be at the Tour. Taminiaux is at Lotto to give them more opportunities to get points in smaller races, specifically in May, June, August and September.
- The extensions of Beullens, Van Moer and De Buyst? Oh come on, like the team wouldn't be wanting them to stay if De Lie wasn't as good as he is. They're simply good riders. Grignard is probably the only one who's life has been made significantly easier thanks to De Lie.
- the bikefitter is Gaetan Bille btw, ex Lotto rider, it's not like he's a nobody. There has been like 10 new news in the Lotto staff this season, it's not like they are all coming from De Lie
- Naesen was on the shortlist of Lotto, so was Vanmarcke. De Lie and Lotto wanted reinforcement with experience, and those were simply the 2 Belgian guys that fitted the profile. It wasn't rocket science.

Sounds more like it was Lotto's choice, by not activating the option to extend with 2 years. Maybe they found something else/better, or they thought they would and didn't (which would be bad obviously).
It's a pretty weird interview honestly. Sounds like everything is already decided (and HLN isn't wrong often with these things) and Dstny guy simply can't communicate yet.
One of the worst cobbled classic campaigns in their existence. Result wise absolutely horrendous, with a 10th in Omloop and 13th place in E3 being their best results. Team looked cursed ofcourse with Vermeersch already out in his first race (he would've been really good in a race like today), De Lie not being himself after opening weekend and even others crashing out almost every race (I think Van Moer crashed in 4 out 5 classics, Beullens in 3 out of 5 he rode, including today being in a decent position). Slocks performance today was a positive.
Let's hope Van Gils doesn't crash out or get sick in the hilly classics. With Kron they have a good duo there. With Van Eetvelt they would've had a really strong team, but he's still out sadly. Still not a lot of positive progression regarding his knee problems.

Slock is really a positive surprise, he rode very strong in Schelde and yesterday at P-R as well... hope he can build on that for the next races and classics season
Would you reckon the cobbled classic campaigns of Lotto Dstny worse or equally bad versus Soudal Quick Step? Both were extremely disappointing.
Hmm, resultwise QS did a bit better because at least they got a top 10 in GW with Merlier, and he also won Scheldeprijs en got 2nd in De Panne which obviously aren't cobbled classics, but Lotto doesn't even have that to make up for their lack of results in the actual classics. That being said. QS did have their best riders at the start of the classics, Lotto missed their 2 leaders. So imo Lotto has an actual valid excuse (even tho I think they should've done better without De Lie and Vermeersch too), QS doesn't.
So basically both complete ***, but at least Lotto can hide behind the fact they missed Vermeersch and De Lie.
