Maaskant squabble

Between Hushovd, Haussler, and Farrar, how many spring classics have they won the last couple of years? This predicted Garmin world dominance was all hype.

It was meant to be a 'bigtime breakthrough' season for the two Hs at least. But yeah you're right, I probably bought into the hype a bit too easily. :p

I'm sure you'll get to do that a fair bit after the Ronde and Paris-Roubaix ;)

yeah I never got it either. They have strength in depth (but so do other teams really), but no real winners. Probably the most talented rider they have on the cobbles is Maaskant, but he has had bad luck the past couple of seasons.

No f'ing way man... :p What a terrible thing to say. Sure, he's not bad, but have you seen their squad? Haussler, Hushhovd, Klier, Vanmarcke...

Maaskant had better RVV/PR finishes than Klier and Vanmarcke ever had. Even Hushovd and Haussler only ever performed better once (Hushovd in PR once, Haussler in RVV once).

Maaskant has never looked like winning one (yet) though, Haussler and Hushovd certainly did (although as you say, once ;) )

Biggest surprise for me was that you were right about Westra and Pouls breaking through ;)

I know that. I'm just pointing out Vanmarcke and Klier are not that good (Klier in the past maybe)

That's why I included them. Klier in the past, Vanmarcke for the future... Just don't overrate Maaskant, he has never even gotten close to taking a cobbled classic or semi-classic for that matter.

Did Maaskant win De Ronde in 2005? I did not realise this. :)

Well Klier didn't....

Read my entry more carefully please. Klier was second in 2005, which means Maaskant should have won De Ronde already for his RVV record to be better than Klier's.

I wouldn't call Maaskant an overrated rider... Dekker_T probably manages his website and is thus blind to his shortcomings, but if anything Maaskant is underrated. People even wondered if he was good enough for the Garmin classics squad... and then he was the only Garminite to do anything in the Omloop.

I meant in recent years... 2005 is 6 years ago for crying out loud.

Let's name Armstrong as favorite for the Tour then... *sigh*

Damn you Dekker twisting everything around... I'm just saying Maaskant isn't the most talented cobbles rider in the team. Not talking about this years favorites...

:) I do think he is a very good rider, but there are riders at Garmin with more potential.

I was only half kidding... Dekker_T really does the guy's website (if I'm not mistaken). Like a few other riders (Langeveld, obviously Thomas D in the past).

I only knew he did Thomas Dekker's website :).
It just amuses me that he always starts blabbering his way out of everything...

wtf man?

I just said he is not as good as Hushovd and Haussler. I'm just saying he is no lesser man than Vanmarcke or Klier right now.

I haven't said anything about his potential. That was Timmy-loves-Rabo, not me.

Start reading the next time you want to react

It amuses me you clearly didn't understand I reacted to the names of Vanmarcke and Klier, and it amuses me even more how wrong you understood me.
If anyone here is blabbering, it's you

:p Jezus, Dekker... Really? In what way did I not understand you were reacting to the names of Vanmarcke and Klier? I defended both of them and did not even mention the other names again.

Are you delusional? :)

We're talking about now. Not the future, not the past. Right now. Maaskant is better than both those guys.

 Euhm no... We were talking about talent. That was what it was all about. Read Timmy's first post.

I stand by my comment, Maaskant showed huge potential a couple of years ago. When strong and fit, he looks great on the cobbles, but has had some bad luck. Was a pity he got injured, because he was by far their strongest rider at omloop this year.

Potentially, IMO he can be the strongest rider on the team. Like youngest said, he is often underrated if anything.

Haussler and Hushovd also very strong. And definitely at this point deserve team leadership at garmin. Hushovd I never see wining one of the monuments tho.

I moved these 22 posts out of a thread that had nothing to do with this squabble. And tone it down too with the personal insults, please.

Maaskant is god because it's all about talent.
But hey what about Vanmarcke, he's just 22.
Maaskant has better results.
But Klier has better results than Maaskant.
Yeah but those were a long time ago, right now Maaskant > Klier.
So why Maaskant > Vanmarcke again?

Ah DT, never change.

Garmin's cobbles team...

Leaders
Hushovd, Haussler

Superdomestiques
Maaskant, Vansummeren

Road Captains
Klier, Hammond

Domestiques
Millar, Farrar

Young Talent
Vanmarcke

Agree with D_T about Maaskant potentially being a leader. Right now, if he was riding, Maaskant would be the third best cobbled rider on that team.
