So yea who is it?

Valverde had a great year but didn't win often enough. If he would have podium'd the tour and won a monument then he was the best this year but he didn't cause he's valverde lol

For me it's Contador, he was 2nd or 1st in every stage race he was in. Won the vuelta + 2 stage victories. And if he didn't crash in the tour, well i guess i'm not allowed to use if...:(

Kwiatkowski did really well too but he cracked in the some races though, hopefully he'll realise that GT's is a bit too hard for him, maybe he'll get better there but if it's only a small improvement then it's not worth it imo.

Nibali would be a serious contender if he did more than just winning the tour (in his defence he tried something in MSR and LBL iirc)

Kristoff had an awesome season.

It's difficult to say, nobody really had a superlative year in my opinion.

Maybe Kristoff or Contador?

Actually, it's Contador. Only the crash in the TDF hampered it a bit, but he won lots a GT and basically every other smaller stage race he targeted.

(Or is it Gerrans? :p)

Nobody really sticks out for me.

Everybody seems to just lack that little extra important win somewhere.

Contador with some prep stage races and the weakest GT, hmm not really.

Valverde with tons of wins and placements, but without a big win: No deal.

Nibali destroying the competition in the worlds biggest race, but was a non factor everywhere else. Hardly inspiring.

Kwia with a handful of wins and lots of placements, but the worlds RR being the only big trophy.

Gerrans would be the man if he bagged the Worlds.

Quintana with the Giro and some really small stuff. Not enough.

Panzerwagen? No chance

Degenkolb or GVA? meh

Kristoff would be the man with one more big win.

I'll keep my vote for something else.

Yup there's no obvious candidate, I don't think anyone really fully deserves this title.

However since it's a simple poll :D ... I think I'll vote Valverde. He's missing the big win but he shone throughout the entire year from start to finish winning the world tour and highest CQ ranking ever. While lots of others had a better peak I don't think they deserve Cyclist of the year ...

This is a tough one, no one that really sticks out big. Could have been Quintana if he hadn't crashed in the Vuelta. Nibali while he had a fantastic Tour, didn't do much outside of that. Froome was kinda crap most of the season but is saved by his Romandie win and Vuelta podium. Valverde was very consistent but that's about it. So I suppose it has to be Contador, since he had a great early season and managed to finish the season off with the Vuelta. Just has the Tour that was a backstep in his season.

Why is Tony Martin an option?

Why not Wiggo or Kittel?

And what is Degenkolb doing there? Won G-W and some Vuelta stages... Couldn't win a stage in the Tour and clearly had a worse year than monument winners like Canc, Terpstra and Martin.

...

Best: Contador
Most consistent/performed throughout the season: Valverde
Biggest single performance/race: Nibali
Honourable mentions to: Gerrans & Kristoff.

Gilbert 2011 scored higher

And Alberto did not have a peak, he was in bad *** form from February till September and he beat Valverde in every single stage race they raced together

Oh snap he did, 3180 to 3152 ... he should've done Bejing !

For sure Contador beat him in the stage races (he is a better stage racer), but you can't discredit the classics completely (Valverde being the better classic rider).

you are correct, but I rate wins higher than placings

Probably I'll give it to the TdF winner.

In the end, this most likely turn into another Contador fan poll/thread.

Well this isn't 2013, so....I can vote Contador in this thread without being biased at all. :) Except for his last 2 one day races, whenever he finished a race he never placed lower than 2nd overall. The only rider who was anywhere around him was Valverde, but AC takes the vote from him because he won a gt. Now if anyone was to pick Nibali as the male cyclist of the YEAR... - well only a fanboy would do that. :)

Well Valverde won the WT, but didn't win often enough and neither a GT or monument. Plenty of placings.

Contador won two one week stage races plus the Vuelta

Nibali won the Tour and Italian RRC Nothing for the rest of the year.

It has to be between these three.

1-Alberto Contador
2- Valverde
3- Nibali

EDIT: Reversed Valverde and Nibali. It was for Cyclist of the Year, not month. Hard to deny Valverde had a better Year start to finish.

Ha, a good one.

I guess I'm putting a lot of weight on the best GT of the year, thus whoever and how he wins it, will automatically be the best cyclist of the year. It's just this year it happened to have been Nibali. As fate would have it ;)
