Mallorca road cycling - good base towns / accomodations

looking at spending some time , probably 7-10 days , in mallorca doing some riding and hoping to get some direction from folks here on good towns to spend that amount of time in that will also allow some good hilly bike rides of circa 100 miles .
possibly useful to choose somewhere that has the advantage of having a train link that can stretch and add quality to the routes too - may or may not be realistic .
if you know of some accomodation with independent attitudes then that too would be useful .

so if anyone has experience in those territories and advice that would be welcomed .

thanks in advance for all the advice offered

I`ve been there twice and would strongly suggest staying in or very near Port de Pollença. There is a great bike shop there that rents road bikes of all levels to the top end. They have a bike route map of the entire island that they designed as well as group rides every day at 9am. That is the part of Mallorca that has the most mtns and is where most of the pro teams have their training camps. I have never experienced a more bike friendly part of the world. The shop is: http://procyclehire.com/

I don´t think there are any trains, but you won´t need them. From Port de Pollenca you ride out to any number of routes.

As for places to stay, check online either in town or nearby. The hotels range from total budget to very nice 4 stars or whatever you can afford. Oh yeah, they are all.......and I mean all completely bike friendly. Have a great time. You´re basically going to want to return every year once you´re been once.

Mallorca is quite small so wherever you are you are not too far from anywhere. Essentially the island is split. Mountains in the north and flat to the middle and south.

The mountains are really dangerous when it gets wet as the smooth roads become like ice. So most people advise you to ride on the flatter roads on the planes when the weather is crap. For this reason you may want to look for somewhere to stay from which you can access the flats areas and the mountains without too much trouble. The most scenic, beautiful areas are definitely in the mountain range and along the north coast (or at least as far as I can tell) but there are more hotels etc along the southern coast.
