Teams & Riders Matteo Jorgenson's inexorable rise to the top

Page 19 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Jorgenson and Almeida could have given Remco a run for third if they were leading their own teams.
I don’t think so. Jorgenson got gapped big time on Galibier without doing any pacing and would’ve been around 3 minute behind Remco after stage 2, Galibier and the ITT. It would’ve been hard to get that time back given how Remco have climbed, and if Jorgenson was a leader aiming for the podium he wouldn’t be allowed in a break like he did on Isola. Almeida would probably be quite a lot closer, but also he would’ve had to make up significant time after stage 2 and the ITT. At Plateau du Beille Almeida didn’t pull a single meter for Pogacar and still lost almost 2 minutes to Remco. They would be closer, but I don’t think it would be a close battle.

if today he shows some improvements in the TT compared to dauphiné - less than 30 sec to remco/pog - i'd say he deserves to be the leader in a Gt next year, hopefully the giro. Honestly, I was expecting a good third week but nothing like this, the consistency he displyed puts him in the top 5 for gc contenders, on pair with almeida after the big 4. Just hope no vuelta for him but a nice rest and a good autumn campaing.

I worried his recovery was not good enough for a three week race but he's finishing the Tour on a high note.
Could be a future Vuelta winner. Or even Giro?
This is what, his 4th Tour? He looked pretty strong last year so his recovery with this work load proved pretty amazing. That last TT said alot about his top end; after that work load.

Well, the Danish pronunciation is hard. That's a fact, and the reason why the Danish children need longer time to learn it compared to other kids ;)

Or maybe they just start learning to speak Danish from the moment they start eating hot potatoes :D
And we all know from where Swedish children learn their tongue language:

(sorry just post posting realized I bumped the thread - first time noticing it)

I enjoy listening to Matteo—but wish the interviewer didn’t feel the need to talk so Much!

42 minute video, what's the tldw?
He provides a recap of the Tour. I think he undersells his performance a bit. "It's not like 8th in GC is gonna change anything." But he's happy that he performed well deep into the third week of a grand tour and that he did good time trials. His CdA has improved a lot at Visma.

For the Olympic road race, he thinks the Belgian squad is the team to beat. But that it will be a really hard race to control. Matteo thinks a solo rider will win the race.

He has to laugh when the guy from CM says Van der Poel is the overwhelming favorite for the OG RR, "you really think so?".

He picks Evenepoel to finish solo. The peloton only has 90 riders, of which roughly 30 are pack fodder, teams are small so the race will be difficult to control. That also means unlike at a big classic, monument or even WCC, that positioning is far less a factor. So riders that are good at positioning, lose that advantage. The city course starts a lot closer to the finish than in the '23 WCC, the peloton will be much smaller, teams weaker/smaller. On average riders will be riding in the wind a lot more/earlier (the peloton is much smaller and a lot of the riders aren't WT level and will drop early). There are no radios. All of that screams chaos and a long hard race.
