Granted I think every month should be "Bike to Work Month," raising awareness for commuting is great to see.

There is a nationwide challenge going on to see which person and business can rack up the most miles on the bike. I'm the only one from my company  (so far) so I might try to start a team with my old Uni.

Who all here already commutes via bike?

For me it will be like any other month, I already commute everyday. Good to see something like this going on. If only everybody coummuted to work, hopefully this will get people to start commuting.

I don't even call it commute. :p It's just everyday stuff for me. How else would I get around anyway? I don't have, or plan on taking, a driver's license and the bus-system still somewhat confuses me (we got a new one back in August, and I'm kinda slow... ) so that leaves only leg-power! :D

National where? BTW.

Almost every day, unless the roads are too slick with black ice or snow.

Basically this for me, too.
The bike is the only sensible option to get around with in Copenhagen. I use it for everything - going to University, going to football training & matches, visiting friends etc.
I use the bus/s-train/metro only when it rains too much for my liking, or when there's too much ice out there. Snow (if it is the minuscule amounts we usually get) doesn't bother me: Bike paths are cleared of snow BEFORE the car lanes here!

Great Britain, I think.

I started on team for the place I work. Waiting on 4 other co-workers to sign-up..in the pre May days I have been keeping pace with 3-4 teams single handed. Its' 9 miles to work and back..I usually take the subway in the morning as I get to work around 6ish, then ride home. Course the miles I ride during the week/weekends helps the totals greatly.

This is US only, wish there was more news of it out and about. There are tons of bikes parked at the hospital, but not many people know about it.

Good luck Nvpacchi, should be fun.

What part of Philly do you ride in/out from?

I worked in Philly 1 summer (lived 20 miles West of downtown), and would've loved to bike in to town. But with R5 crawling distance from my place and a lack of shower in my office, I had to opt for the train.

Now I only have a 10 minute commute to work, so I'll have to rely on my training miles to increase my distance.

My house is in the fairmount/art museum area of Philly. I catch the subway at Fairmount or Springardern--to Broad and Olney, then ride home in the evenings through Wayne Junction/Logan/Midvale Ridge areas. Couple of little climbs and a fast downhill to Ridge, then ride through Fairmount Park, and then to home. 9.5 miles, with the stoplights and stopsigns, I stop at them all...trying to be an example to drivers...not all us cyclist ignore traffic signs, I try to show them..takes me around 30-35 mins.

The shower things is cool for me, I just hop in the Cath Lab locker room showers, or if I go to my main hospital downtown shower at the fitness center for the university...if I ever decide to ride in in the mornings.
