I feel two big moments that are worth drawing attention to are Kasia's win at Flèche Wallonne, and the finish at Amstel Gold. Flèche has obviously been massively overshadowed by the TDFF and the insane, insane drama that was that final day's competition (I'd put it down as not just the women's cycling stage of the year but arguably the cycling stage of the year period, with all the drama it entailed), but that was ending an enduring, ever-infuriating victory drought that we all were starting to wonder if it would ever end, and doing so in spectacular fashion. And Amstel Gold not because it was a wildly underachieving race (seriously, get rid of that f***ing circuit, it is horrible for racing and it's getting worse by the year) but because of the bizarreness that unfolded as SD Worx decided to, for one day only, get Vollering and Kopecky on the same page, both sacrificing their own chances for Lorena Wiebes, who if the race wasn't raced so poorly and if the course wasn't so miserable wouldn't have been there in the first place (she's massively improved her climbing, but if they had a proper Amstel Gold Race with things like Keutenberg and Eyserbosweg rather than just endless Bemelerberg drivel, the recovery time wouldn't be enough for her to keep on in there), only for her to then pull a Zabel in spectacular fashion. It was fun enough in a Schadenfreude way at the time, but then after the BS she pulled in August, watching Vollering as defending champion pulling on the front to drag her ungrateful hide around is bittersweet, but watching Vos pinch the win on the line is absolutely laugh out loud hilarious.
