This is user Bilirubin. Today I logged onto my account and received this message:
"You have been banned for the following reason:
Registered with fake email address
Date the ban will be lifted: Never"
This was surprising, because you cannot post on the Cycling news forums without a legitimate email account that can be verified. The system doesn't allow you to do this, so all I can think that has happened is an individual moderator is not aware of the registration system, tried to contact me and had a bounce back from their server. In that case, this can quickly be resolved by another moderator explaining the system to them, and if they have any doubts email me at the same address *** edited my mod *** and I will return their email. (I have already emailed the site)
Or, I thought, maybe somebody believes my email address doesn't sound like someone's personal email account, therefore they banned me on those grounds. But that would be extraordinary. Like countless people, I use one email address for people close to me, and another address for the internet and local cycling club business. That is common place practise and is in fact what all email account providers advise you to do to avoid spammers and hackers and to remain anonymous online. There is nothing in Cycling News rules that stipulates you have to handover your personal email account for family and friends - it just states that you need a legitimate and valid email address. That I provided.
Please can you rectify this mistake and reactive the account. I'm sure this is just a simple era, but I have questioned whether I might have been banned because someone didn't like me disagreeing with a couple of guys with high post counts.
thank you,
Bilirubin
