Moderators: Allow Fanboy and fangirl threads

I have read the debate about LaFlorecita and her Contador love.

It all started with appreciate/depreciate threads, then the threads were renamed to discussion threads.

I think this forum should allow fanboy and fangirl threads.

This kind of threads do no harm and they are IMO fun to read.

But name the threads like 'Only for Alberto Contador fangirls and fanboys'.
Then people can stay away from them if they don't care.

Sure, but in Cafe or possibly new subforum because according to subforums descriptions:
Road subforum description said:
A place to discuss all things related to current professional road races. Here, you can also touch on the latest news relating to professional road racing. A doping discussion free forum.

and
Cafe subforum description said:
Grab a short black and come join in the non-cycling discussion. Favourite books, movies, holiday destinations, other sports - chat about it all in the cafe.

It would really be too much of a stretch to claim that love and affection outpours have anything strictly in common with professional road races only because the object of affection is a pro-cyclist - it might as well be anyone else. The problem with fanboy threads in road racing forum is that the fanboys are frequent posters and that would lead to fanboy threads being on top of the road racing subforum most frequently pushing RELEVANT threads out of focus on the first page - and that is annoying for more stricly road racing oriented members.

Even better option than putting those threads into Cafe is to create a special subforum where only positive fanboyistic comments are permitted and negative comments are erased and posters banned. I propose to call that new subforum "Fanboy heaven".

Why doesn't someone just go ahead and open up a "Contador Love", or whoever, thread in the Cafe?

And then the "fanboy/girls" can discuss eye colour, underwear, whatever, amongst themselves, and the cycling enthusiasts can discuss the riders' cycling performances in the discussion thread.

It's all quite simple, actually.

But the off-topic stuff in the cycling portion of the forum really must stop.

This sounds like a great solution if mods are willing to set it up :)

Good idea.

Because the Cafe forum is not about cycling :)

From post #2:

The mods can't set up new sub-forums.

Administrators should be able to, or they're using a bad forum software :p

All I know is that we mere mortals can't do it.

If you don't want the "love" threads in the Cafe, put them in the "General" section under the Road subforum. It doesn't really matter, does it?

And further off-topic postings will continue to be deleted.

Susan -- going back on "vacation" now.....

Why are pictures of riders off-topic?
They are relevant stuff like rumours/gossip about riders IMO.

As if pictures was the only problem we have to dealt with the last days of unhealthy obsession with one certain rider.

I strongly doubt that Contadors underwear has anything to do with that either.

It seems like those of you (including mods) who wanted to get rid of LaFlorecitas silliness have gotten what you wanted. Now you can enjoy high quality discussions of cycling.....

Taking into account that this is your first post(congratulations!), there are two possibilities:
1. you are La Florecita and have opened a new account
2. you are long time lurker and LaFlo's secret admirer

I like the first possibility better :) Would you like a place of your own where mods would leave you at peace?

But in the case of second possibility don't you agree that making a special subforum for fanboy posts would make things better for you because all the silliness would be concentrated in one place? ;)

who want's to get rid of them?

laflo's posts probably have greater value/relevence than mine and are the equal of those from any other forum member

In an ideal world indeed I do agree.

But unfortunately the silliness seems to seep through into other threads and it gives the forum a feeling of immaturity and misses the point of the forum as a place for sensible and objecitve discussion.

I know of a lot of established members who have been put off by the inane pictures and such which this forum currently seems to revolve around and it would be a shame to accentuate the matter.

Listen, all your thread ideas/suggestions have gone in the tank now you provoke or even give hope when we know you will inevitably just shut it down again. What makes this any different, your word?

The underwearpost is posted by Cimber not LaFlorecita

But anyway I agree - those underwear has nothing to do in a cycling forum.

Look, i am not saying LaFlorecita is sharing the responsibility for everything that has went wrong here. There are many people out there who has throwned over links/clips: "What will LaFlo think if i post this", "What will LaFlo think about this picture" "What will LaFlo think about what he says here". Spamming all over the place.

I have generally no problems with these kinds of discussions but they cant share space with more "Alberto-the cyclist" oriented discussions since those gets drowned in a tidal wave of pictures, twittermessages, oneliners, smilies. Capice?

So what do you suggest.

I suggest we do a split in two parts (like the one they have in the official Armstrong-thread in the clinic). Were you are allowed to do your thing in your orginal thread and a part two which is more cycling-oriented.

I understand that the moderators must have something to say in this matter (location and so on) but it would be some justice after all.

At least one mod has made a suggestion. I quote:

I know, but you have been pretty harsh to LaFlorecity IIRC.

But overall I agree with you, that's why I started this thread.

The problem is that there is only one fanboy/girl over here. And I hate having a conversation with myself.
